Chapter 8: Laughter and Generousity

As they kept walking deeper into the woods, the dark green mass went continued to follow them. Then it went ahead and phased in to the trees before they came.
"Is it me, or are these woods getting harder to look at?" Silver stated. "The emeralds could be right in front of us and we wouldn't even know it." Tails agreed. They were right, the thickness of the forest made it harder to see in the darkness. "We just have to keep moving. Keep your eyes peeled guys." Sonic told them as they carried on. Then all of a sudden, they heard Cream let out a scream. "What is it Cream?" Blaze asked. She pointed to trees ahead while giving a fearful look on her face. Knuckles walked up to them and said, "They're just trees Cream. Nothing to worry." Until he took a good look at them himself and saw they all had a scary, terrifying faces.

"AAAAAAHHHHH!" They screamed in terror at the sight of the horrific trees. All of them, except for Amy. "Guys! Calm down, they're just a bunch of trees." She told them. "But just look at them. They look like monsters." Silver pointed out. Amy just rolled her eyes and smiled. "They may look scary at first, but if you think about they're just a bunch of weird faces." She said without any worry. "You just have to stand up and laugh at your fears away. Like this." So Amy went in front of a tree and giggled. Then for some strange reason, the face disappeared from the tree. They all stood there amazed. "See. Just stand up tall, look at fear in the face and laugh." Amy told them proudly.

The looked at each other for a second until Sonic decided to speak up. "Alright then. Let's try it." He went up to a tree and took a good look at it and realized Amy was right. "You know guys she's right. These are just a bunch weird faces on trees. Ha ha." He started to laugh at the tree and the face disappeared. Soon everybody just joined in and started laughing at the scary faces. The more they laughed the more the faces disappeared from the trees.
The path was clear to pass through again and the gang went out still laughing. Sonic came up to Amy, "Amy that was a great idea. Great job back there." She looked him smiling dreamily, "Oh thanks Sonic!" Amy was so happy that she hugged him. Sonic blushed hard while the others are watching them.

After getting out of the woods, they reached a river that had very rough waters. "Great. Why does it always have to be water." Sonic said with a exasperated expression since he still doesn't like swimming. "One of these days, you have to get over your fear of water." Knuckles told in a joking tone. "Come on guys. The emeralds are on the other side of this river." Tails said. Amy agreed "Tails is right. We need a way to cross the river. But how?"
Just then, they heard someone was crying and went to check it out. When they saw who it was, they were shocked at what they found. There was a giant sea serpent crying and thrashing so hard that it was causing big, rough waves in the water. "HOW!HOW! Ohhhhhh!" The whole gang approached him to see what was wrong. "Hey Mr. serpent, what's the matter?" Sonic asked him. The serpent turned to them and said, "Well I was just minding my own business when this dark green cloud came by. It cut half of my mustache clean off! Ohh!" He kept thrashing so hard that it sent a wave that splashed the whole gang.

They were all soaking wet and looked at him with disbelief. "Is that what all crying is about?" Knuckles said annoyed. Then Blaze stepped up and said "Now don't be rude Knuckles. If this serpent is really upset, then he needs help." She walked up to the serpent. "You poor thing. Let me see what I can do for you." She said in a calming tone. Blaze looked around until she found the other half of the mustache on the ground. She walked up to his face and looked at thought of how to reattach it. "What can I use to tie it on?" And then Blaze took off her necklace used it to tie on the other half of the mustache.

The serpent looked at his face at what Blaze did to his mustache. "Oh! My mustache! You fixed it!" Thank you!" He was overjoyed for what the cat girl had done for him. "It was nothing really. You look great." Blaze said with a smile. Then Sonic walked up to her, "Wow Blaze. You just gave away your gold necklace to help him." He said astonished. She just turned to him and said, "it's only jewelry Sonic, I can buy another one." Then they heard Tails call out to them. "Hey guys, we can cross the river now!" That's when the serpent made his body like a bridge. "Allow me!" So they all jumped on his back and walked across to other side of the river to continue their journey.
