"A WHAT?" MACK looked. . .very confused. Percy felt bad for him. How could he not? The guy had just found out he had the sight, and he was looking at something he'd previously thought didn't exist.
"A gryphon," Percy told the room. He stood, exasperated. "More likely than not, it came here to kill us. We'll need our weapons."
May pursed her lips, thinking, her eyes glued on the screen, giving no inclination as to what she saw. She shook her head and left the room—to get their stuff, Percy hoped.
Daisy regarded the video feed as if she were being forced to watch a dog throw up. "Uh. . .what can we do to help?"
Annabeth sighed. "Nothing, really. Only Celestial Bronze and other godly metals can hurt them, so whatever you guys have isn't going to work." Percy thought he saw Mack's shoulders slump at that. The guy must have been itching to use something of his own.
"I have an extra blade," Annabeth continued. "My sword. I'm better with the dagger anyhow. Can any of you use a sword?" She didn't really look like she was expecting an answer, but to Percy's surprise, Daisy spoke up.
"May can," she told them. "She's a total badass. Would my powers help?"
"Yes, thank the gods." Percy gestured towards Daisy with an arm. "Maybe we can work together a little. Earthquakes are one of Poseidon's domains."
She nodded, her forehead scrunched.
"All right. Anyone want to take us there?" Annabeth asked the room. "Before we're outnumbered?" Sure enough, a second gryphon had landed beside the first. They sniffed the area like bloodhounds. Other dark blots on the horizon showed more to come.
"Let's go." Coulson led the way, half walking, half jogging. "I.C.E.R.s worked on the other ones. Mack, want to grab a few?"
Mack peeled off, muttering. Percy could have sworn he said something about a shotgun-axe.
The group rounded a corner and almost ran smack into May, who wielded Annabeth's sword and dagger. "I couldn't find the other one," she announced, sounding apologetic, and handed over the weapons.
"Don't worry, I have it," Percy said, patting his pocket. May looked at him strangely but said nothing.
"Here, May. Take the sword." Annabeth gave it back to her. "I can't use both at once. Not very well, at least."
"Thanks." May almost sounded out of breath. She studied the white blade as they walked.
A faint SKREE could be heard up ahead.
"Getting close," Coulson yelled over his shoulder. Percy felt like he was going to throw up. These mortals barely had anything to defend themselves with against the monsters, and here he was, asking them to face them. He sent up a silent prayer to all the gods that would listen. Don't let them die.
Just then, Mack came up behind them, having run the distance from the weapons room. "I.C.E.R.s right here," he said, tossing one to Coulson, one to Simmons, and kept the third for himself. "What d'you got there, Turbo?"
Fitz held up his. . .contraption. "Electromagnetic pulse cannon. Thought it might help."
They came up to a large set of metal doors and stopped. Sounds of sniffing, scratching, and SKREEs permeated through.
