I was sitting down at my lunch table like I did every day reading my book when I heard a tray hit the table. I didn’t look up until I heard the chair across from me scoot back then scoot back in. I wasn’t surprised to see Elliot sitting there. I simply looked up, then looked down at my book. I was confused as to why he wouldn’t just leave me alone.
“I like your hair,” he said shyly. When I looked up, he was looking down at his food.
“It looks horrible,” I replied bluntly referring to my boy cut hairstyle. He looked up at me and leaned in real close, or at least as close as the table would allow him to get.
“I don’t think so. It gives you edge. It says ‘Hey I’m gorgeous, but I’m also pretty badass, so stay away from me ‘cause I don’t like you’. I like it.”
It took everything in me not to smile at your somewhat compliment, so I just replied, “My hair speaks to you? Funny, it’s never done that to me.”
He chuckled under his breath and leaned back into his chair with a small smile on your face. You starred at me for little bit. I finally broke and laughed a little, and when Elliot joined me I laughed even more.
“What are you reading?” he questioned nodding your head towards my book.
“The Great Gatsby. You ever heard of it?” I retorted and raised my eyebrow.
“You insult me. Of course I’ve heard of The Great Gatsby. Fitzgerald is a genius.”
“I have to confess something; this is the third time I read the book.”
“Darling, please. I’ve read that masterpiece at least five times.”
I laughed again and starred into his eyes. You were different. Not like anyone at Millbrook High School. Though I still couldn’t help but feel like I was going to ruin his social status.
“You should probably go sit somewhere else,” I muttered softly wishing so badly to shrink into my over sized sweatshirt.
Elliot leaned his forearms on the table and said, “Now why in the world would I want to do that? I wouldn’t be anywhere else. I mean all these people,” he pointed to everyone in the cafeteria, “they should be jealous of me. I get to sit with this peculiarly beautiful girl and discuss the way her hair speaks to me and not her because her hair obviously likes me better, and the infamous Great Gatsby. Never in a million years would I go sit somewhere else and miss sharing an amazing moment like this with you.”
I was too stunned to respond, so I didn’t. I just starred at him again. He probably thought something was wrong with, but I didn’t care anymore.
I nodded my head and closed my eyes for a couple minutes. A bunch of thoughts were running through my mind. I was picturing our first date, our marriage, our baby’s- we would make the most good looking baby’s ever if they had all there fathers genes- then our lives as old people. It would be amazing.
“What are you doing, Quinn?” Elliot asked.
“Thinking. Can’t you tell? I’m pretty sure my brow is furrowed more than it usually is.”
I gave him a couple seconds to respond and when he didn’t I opened one of my eyes. He was sitting there with his head hung down, but I could tell by the way his body was moving he was chuckling.
“You are a special one, Quinn Dailey. I like special things,” he said and stood up right when the bell rang.
He took his tray and dumped his uneaten food in the trashcan. When I raised my eyebrow at you to ask the unspoken question of why he hadn’t even touched his food, he shrugged his shoulders and said, “It’s all bullshit anyway.”
I stood up and threw my half eaten salad away. We walked to class together in silence. This lunch was definitely was of the most fun moments I’ve had since before Sawyer had gotten sick.
Hey guys! I am so sorry for the late update! Please continue to read my story! Things have been a little crazy because so many crazy things have been happening in my life and so I haven’t had much time to write and post which is unfair to you guys! Um I was just wondering if maybe I could get 3 votes and 3 comments before I post the next chapter? I don’t know I don’t want to be one of those authors but just let me know what you think of that idea in the comments below. Thanks everyone!
