I walked into my English classroom and casually sat down in my normal seat in the back corner. It was the farthest away from the enemy, AKA my old best friends. They were the popular sluts. I’m pretty sure one of them used me just so they could have sex with Collin. Having a hot brother sucked so much.

Mr. Cole hobbled into the classroom with the normal grumpy look plastered on his wrinkly face. Though something was different. He actually managed to look grumpier than normal. I looked to his right and noticed a hand had caught the door. I watched with wonder to see who would walk through the threshold.

I wasn’t surprised when my gaze landed on Elliot’s. He whispered something into Mr. Cole’s ear.

“Quinn! Pack your bags you will be showing Elliot around the school for the day,” Mr. Cole muttered like he could care less. My head shot up at the mention of my name, and the paranoia settled in the pit of my stomach. I was hyper-aware of the dropped jaws from the thirsty cheerleaders in my class who wanted Elliot, the new boy, like he was the new Victoria’s Secret push up bra collection, and the glares my old friends gave me, and the expectant stares of everyone else in the class to see if I would actually react, but I didn’t look at anyone else except Elliot. His gaze, hard and unreadable, made me feel as though I was being interrogated by a policeman, and a bright light was shining on my face

“Quinn! Did you hear me, or are you not going to respond?” My teacher questioned harshly. I’m pretty sure I blinked once, maybe twice, before I saw something in Elliot’s eyes that I hadn’t seen yet. There was a little pleading in them that I didn’t understand. He kept his cool on the outside, but the look in his eyes, made him look as though he wanted to run and hide.

My body suddenly had a mind of it’s own as I stood from my desk and packed my bag. I threw it over my shoulder aware of everyone watching my every moment, but the one I gaze I could feel the most was pulling me towards the front of the class like a magnet.

“Quinn, you will guide Elliot around the school for the day so he doesn’t get too lost,” Mr. Cole stated bluntly. I still never looked at the old man. My eyes were glued to the pair to Elliot James. I nodded a little to let Mr. Cole know I would do as he asked.

“Mr. Cole!” I heard Rebecca, my old best friend, yell from somewhere in the room, “Don’t you think I would be better suited to show the new kid around? I mean, do you really think that thing should really leave the class? You never know she could contaminate him with her extreme ugliness.” At this moment, I cringed and looked away from Elliot for the first time. I didn’t miss the flash of anger than ran through his eyes before I turned my gaze away.

“Excuse me,” he said as he brushed past my shoulder to walk to her desk, “Beautiful, what’s you’re name?”

I could see her face blush a little as she looked back at my old group of friend with a small smirk on her face. If I were being honest with myself, I would say I was actually jealous that she got all of his attention. Elliot put both his hands on her desk leaning closer to her, I couldn’t help but notice the way his muscles rippled underneath his black shirt.

“Rebecca Carter,” she answered with a flirtatious wink. I squeezed my textbook tighter to my body, trying to keep my cool.

“Well Rebecca, I would just like to tell you that Mr. Cole didn’t choose that thing,” he said and pointed right at me with an intensity that made me want to run and hide, “I did.”

The look on her face was so priceless. He nodded his head towards Mr. Cole then looked at me then at the door, and walked past me leaving the opportunity to leave the classroom up to me.

Just before he was about to exit the classroom he looked back at the dazed Rebecca and said, “Oh yeah, I forgot. That thing has a name, and it’s Quinn, so I suggest you start calling her by her name, or you’ll be hearing from me.”

I shyly followed him out of the classroom giving a quick shrug, and an ‘oh well’ face. In that moment the new kid had come to my rescue.
