"it's not that important that you had to drag me out here in the cold at 9 pm." jaelin said as she sat beside the boy who was sitting on the swing.

he only looked at the girl, and looked back at the ground. "it is when my girlfriend gets sad and I don't know why." he said softly.

"girlfriend? since when?" she asked, raising a brow. he looked at her and glared. "you're the one who told my sister you're my girlfriend."

she stiffled a quiet laugh before swinging lightly. "well, we'll have to take that up with my mom before it becomes official." she sighed.

"then I'll ask her for her permission right now." guanlin said before standing up off the swing. jaelin grabbed his arm and made him sit back down.

"she's not home yet." she said. "but it's almost 10?" jaelin looked at the boy and sighed once again. "she comes home later than 10."

"she works all the time, I'm alone at home all the time and my dad... isn't in the picture anymore." jaelin said quietly but enough for him to hear.

he blinked at the girl who suddenly told him her feelings. "jae." he said softly before standing up and pulling her up to his chest.

tears threatened to fall from the girls eyes as he hugged her. "that's why you were upset." guanlin said to himself as he calmed her.

"I'm sorry, I don't want to bother you with my useless feelings." jae said before pulling away but he hugged her tighter.

"i would gladly listen to you, let it all out because I'll be here for you." he said. it was silent until he heard her sobs causing him to rub her back softly.

"I'm always alone." she said, tears running down her cheeks. "my d-dad left a few years ago, and my mom is never home." she said in between her cries.

"i-i know that she has to work..to take care of me, but I'm only 16!." she said. guanlin didn't like seeing her like this. he understood what she felt though.

"it's not right f-for a 16 year old girl to be alone all the time." she sobbed even more in his arms.

"you have me now jae, I'll always be here for you. I'll keep you company and take care of you while you're sick. I'm obviously not your parents but i love you, and I'm sure your mom would understand." he said.

jaelin wrapped her arms around his waist, finding his words comforting. "talk to your mom okay?" he said as she looked up at him, tear stained cheeks.

he wiped the tears away and gave a reassuring smile. "and after you settle it with her, we'll ask her together, I'll wait." he said.

she gave a tight lipped smile and he kissed her forehead. "I'll walk you home." he said as he grabbed her hand.

jaelin sat on her bed and sighed. she looked at the clock on her bedside table. 1 a.m. it read.

she heard the door downstairs open and she stood up, making her way downstairs.

"mom." jaelin said, catching her mom's attention. her mom looked suprised, most likely because she was still awake.

"what are you doing awa-" "can we..talk?" jaelin said while looking down. her mom raised a brow at her and nodded.

"okay." they sat down at the table and it was quiet before jaelin finally found the courage to speak up. "I miss you." she said.

her mom smiled and let out a awkward laugh. "you just saw me this morning?" she questioned. jaelin looked at her. "You're never home anymore, dad's not here and I have no friends." jaelin said quickly.

her mom didn't know what to say. she blinked before looking down at the table. "I'm sorry." she said.

"i have to work to take care of you, if not.. we'll loose the house." her mom said quietly. jaelin didn't say anything.

"can't you ask for less hours? you're not even getting promoted nor should you work that many hours considering you're not even in icu." jaelin said angrily.

her mom nodded and sighed. "i know jaelin." she said looking at the girl who was tearing up. she sat besides her daughter and hugged her.

"I'm sorry for not being a proper mom. I'll ask okay?" she said as jaelin hugged her back before nodding.

"i miss you too."
