"it'll be alright, she leaves at 1 and we'll have time." jaelin said to calm down the boy who was having a panic attack.
"what if she says no, what if she doesn't like me?" he said with worry. she rolled her eyes and sighed. "last night you said she'd understand, she will." jaelin reassured.
he raised his eyebrows at her and took a deep breath. "okay, then let's do it before I chicken out." he said causing jaelin to laugh.
"it's cute how you admit that you're scared." she teased. he gulped as she opened the front door and walked inside.
he hesitated before being dragged in by the girl. "it's okay guanlin." she said with a smile. he nodded at her and walked into the kitchen where her mom was.
the two stood in front of her as she looked at them with a confused look. "what...is going on?" her mom asked.
jaelin smiled and gulped. "mom, this is guanlin." jaelin introduced the boy who was frozen in place.
he blinked at her mom who studied him."oh the boy from that one time?" her mom smiled. jaelin nodded and looked at guanlin. "thank you for taking care of my daughter when she was sick." her mom smiled.
guanlin nodded and looked at jaelin as if asking for help. she just nudged him and he quickly turned back to face her mom.
"can i have your p-permission to always take care of your daughter?" he stuttered. her mom tilted her head, not understanding.
"well if you're her friend, then I don't see wh-" "as her boyfriend?" he interrupted. jaelin glared at him and nudged him again.
his question caught her mom off guard but she smiled.
"only if you promise to always take care of her, no matter what. to not hurt her in any way shape or form and to be there for her when neither i, or her father are there." her mom said.
guanlin nodded and smiled. "i will, i promise." he said joyfully. her mom smiled at jaelin but jaelin knew that her mom wouldn't let him off that easily.
"and..." her mom continued with a smirk and guanlins smile fell.
"you have to answer all my questions." guanlin's smile completely vanished and he began to panic again, looking at jaelin.
she patted him on the back and smiled reassuringly. "you can do it." she mouthed to the boy.
"okay."
"what's her favorite color?" "-red." "favorite food?" "-lasagna." "favorite flavor ice cream?" "-cookie dough."
her mom nodded and eyed him.
"what does she do when she's frustrated?" -"she sings, draws or does anything to take her mind off it." "favorite childhood show?" "-the.. backyardagains."
jaelin raised her eyebrows at the boy, he had gotten all of them right even if she hadn't told him.
"wow, my ex-husband couldn't have even answered those about his own daughter." her mom said. she nodded at him, satisfied.
"you did good." she said. he let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding in. "and if you ever hurt her, you'll be the next patient at the hospital." her mom said with her fist clenched in front of him.
he nodded rapidly and she smiled. "i expect to see more of you, taking care of my daughter." she said and he smiled.
he nodded and looked back at his girlfriend.
