FALL FROM GRACE
Jamie didn't care how dishonourable her father had been, or how close she'd become with her mother, she need a break from everything. A few minutes after her talk with her mother, she found herself sat aboard her fathers new ship with a bag of her belongings headed to Jakku. She finally felt free, albeit her rebellion was slightly forced.
The feeling of freedom would remain with her over the next three or so years, until she turned twenty one and was called upon by the resistance. A deadly army who called themselves The First Order has surfaced. They'd been around since the fall of the empire, but only recently had they gained enough power to be on the resistance's radar. Leia informed Jamie that Darron Criss, Blue Leader, had requested as his X-Wing fell from the sky that they do whatever it took to get Jamie to take his place. Leia offered her a position she couldn't refuse - created just for her.
Needless to say, the bribe worked. If Jamie had learnt anything during her une with her Father, it was that she should never listen to those who say knowledge is power - power is power. He had demonstrated that by instructing one of his crew members to shoot her, but just before he pulled the trigger, Han told to he had changed his mind and ordered him to take three steps back and put his fingers in his ears. Leia and Luke had told her as a child that knowledge was power, but she knew differently now.
When she asked to return to D'Qar, she and her father got in an argument, resulting in them not talking for the remainder of the journey. When they landed she got off the ship and walked to the bunker, not saying a word. As Jamie got closer, she realised how much she had changed. She had mature both physically and mentally, and both were evident as she walked with her head held high through a crowd of people gazing at the huge ship she had just departed from. She heard it's engines kick in and didn't watch as it left the atmosphere and disappeared back into the cosmos. She pulled her brown jacket on, the warm temperature of D'Qar still not comparable with the heat of the ship she was on. Her jacket was just like her fathers, only better in her opinion.
She reached the door of the bunker and froze. What had she done? She'd possibly damaged her relationship with her father forever and ran to the aid of a cause she didn't really believe in, that what. She'd acted rash and irresponsibly, making her question if she really had matured. She took a deep breath and pushed open the side door to the briefing room, avoiding drawing attention to herself.
The briefing room wasn't really filled, only a few pilots were in there and her mother was no where to be seen. But Poe was. He stood in the middle of a group of pilots, his brown jacket (which Jamie only now recognised as being very similar to her own) and his unruly hair making him stand out. She stood entirely still and listened to his conversation. The group of pilots were looking at something on the hologram board, and talking in hushed tones Jamie had to strain to hear.
"Look at this bullshit." She heard one of the other pilots say. "I've never heard of him, how can he all of a sudden become 'High Commander'? Does that title even exist?"
"He's obviously very close with the general." A female said, her voice annoying her so much Jamie could instantly tell it was Mae Venn. "How else would he get the position."
"Maybe, Mae," Poe began slowly, the way he did when he was preparing to sass someone. "He's a decent Pilot and didn't have to sleep his was to the top." He said, the shade in his voice dropping the room temperature a few degrees. "Not that there's anything wrong with that, though, I meant he must have talent." Jamie scoffed, Poe was always trying to be very respectful about others decisions, but that was just sloppy. She was intrigued, though, as to who they were talking about.
Poe turned around at the sound of a scoff, and his eyes widened to see Jamie's relaxed (and beautiful) figure leaning casually against the wall. He stared at her, her mouth opening slightly in shock, she looked nothing like the girl who had left the base three years ago.
"Shut your mouth, Dameron. You'll catch flies." She tease, and Poe shook his head, hiding his slight blush. The other pilots eyes widened in realisation, suddenly recognising the name. Mae went to tell Poe, but was cut off by the main door opening and General Organa entering. Jamie had taken to calling Leia by her official title rather than her Mother, a way of distancing herself from her family.
"High Commander, so glad you could join us so quickly." She said, a small smile appearing. Jamie nodded at her, and looked at Poe confused as he made a grunt like noise in shock.
"Your name is Jamie?"
