It was a dark and dreary day in Roseville. Rain was poring down in buckets. Thunder rumbled, and lightning flashed. Everyone stayed indoors, and most lights were off, making seem even darker than it already was.

'Boom!'  Thunder sounded and lightning flashed. All the little kids held onto there mothers or fathers, burying their heads in their parents chests. All, except one.

Five year old Hali James sat on the window seal, watching the storm in awe. In her eyes, it was beautiful, something out of a fairy tail. But, you see, Hali was no normal kid. She had a fascination with the dark and with knives. She was also fascinated by pain. She liked going out and finding bugs, spiders, even squirrels and bringing them home to dissect. She loved how they squirmed around in fear, how, when she made the first cut, they made weird noises, yes, she loved it. So the fact that she loved the storm was not in the slightest bit odd.

She sat and watched as a tree fell down in her neighbors yard. She laughed, but was starting to get board. She decided to return to her favorite hobby. She went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife, the only problem was, there were no animals around, and she couldn't go outside to get some because before her parents had left on their date, they told her not to. She wished her parents had let her go collect animals, she hated what she wanted to do when she couldn't. 'Oh well.' She thought

(Mature Scene! Self harm! You have been warned!)

She pulled up one of her sleeves. She looked down at her pale skin. "I've never done it on myself before.." she murmured. "Oh well!" She said happily. She brought the knife to her arm. She laughed as she felt the pain shoot through her body she loved it! She laughed and laughed, and laughed until she couldn't breathe.

(Scene over!)

Suddenly, she heard the sound of a bag being dropped onto the floor.

In the doorway stood her parents, mouths agap, horrified. "Oh! Hi mommy and daddy!" The little girl chirped. "Mommy? Daddy?" Hali looked up at her parents who were not moving. "Are you dead?" She asked as she made her way over to her parents. She took one step, and began to feel dizzy, another, and her vision began to blur, on her third step, she toppled over.

Hali woke to the sound of machines beeping. Groaning, she rubbed her eyes and looked around. "Where am I?" She thought aloud.

The room was pure white and square shaped. It had padded walls and the door was in the right corner. She was in a bed on the far left corner, and a single IV machine was hooked up to her arm.

The door opened with a dull creaking sound, and a nurse hurried inside. She locked the door behind her. The nurse turned to face Hali. "Ah, so you're awake Mrs. James." She said in a dull tone.

"How do you know my name? Who are you? Where am I?" Hali asked frantically. The nurse sighed. "I am Rachel Monroe, but you may call me nurse Monroe. I know your name because your parents told me."

"Where am I?" She asked again.

"You are in DeathBrook." She answered.

"Where in DeathBrook?" Half asked, getting frustrated.

Nurse Monroe sighed.

"DeathBrook Mental Hospital."

All it took was three words.

Three words that would change my life forever.
