It had been a week since Kelly had run into Adam. The two had finally managed to get in touch and tonight the two and Jack were going out for dinner. With Patience staying at Sarah's, Kelly didn't have to worry about what time she and Jack would get back to the apartment or what state they would be in.
As she stood in her bathroom getting ready, butterflies grew in her stomach. She didn't know why she was so nervous but she felt as though she was going to have a panic attack. Jack entered the bathroom then, a glass of red wine in his hand.
"Thought you could use this." He said handing her the glass, a smile on both their faces.
"Thanks." She replied quietly.
"You look, beautiful." He said, giving her a quick kiss. Kelly wore a black t-shirt with a multi-shaded blue flannel, the sleeves were rolled up to her elbows and she wore dark jeans, her blonde hair was down and wavy and she wore some light makeup.
"You don't look so bad yourself." She said with a smirk. Jack wore a dark gray T-shirt, an army green jacket that brought out his hazel eyes and ripped jeans. He was wearing the cologne that Kelly had gotten him for his birthday last month.
"You're nervous, what's up?" Jack asked, rubbing Kelly's upper arm, trying to comfort her.
"I don't know, I guess I'm just scared that he's changed, that he won't be the guy I grew up with. That, and I just hope he doesn't go all 'big brother' on you." He chuckled.
"Try not to worry so much, we're just gonna hang out, have a couple beers and if you're not having fun then we'll leave. It's that easy." Jack shrugged.
"I guess you're right." She said with a sigh, "We should probably get going." Kelly said as she checked her watch.
Jack drove to a local bar, were they had agreed to meet. As they pulled into the parking lot Kelly saw Adam's old 1969 Mercury Cyclone sitting in the front row. She remembered the road trip she took with Adam and her brother to Santa Monica. All their parents had been pissed, almost calling the cops because they had thought the three had run away or had been kidnapped.
The couple got out of the car, Jack grabbed Kelly's hand as they walked into the bar. There Adam sat a table all by himself, he was writing in some sort of journal with a frustrated expression on his face. Jack led the way once Kelly pointed him out, still holding onto her hand.
"Adam." Kelly said lightheartedly as they reached the table. Looking up, Adam smiled when he saw her. His smiled faltered for a moment when he saw Jack. Adam stood and stook hands with him.
"Hey, I'm Adam."
"Jack." Jack smiled at the other man.
"Its good to see you Kells." Adam said to Kelly, giving her a quick hug. The three then sat and ordered some food, having a lighthearted conversation.
"So Adam, how long are you gonna be in Jacksonville?" Jack asked.
"Not sure, I've been thinking about moving back into my dad's old cabin, Kelly you remember it."
"Oh yeah, we'd go skiing up there during the winter." Kelly smiled at the memory.
"Yeah, they're looking for some guys to do construction around town, thought I'd get a job here." Adam took a big sip of beer.
"That's great, I'd love to learn more about what young Kelly was like while your hanging around." Jack joked, earning a laugh from the other two.
"Oh God no, you really don't." Kelly blushed, putting her head in her hands.
"Boy, do I have some stories though." Adam laughed.
"Do enlighten me."
"Well, there was this one time Chris and I caught Kelly sneaking out to go to a concert." Kelly groaned as he continued with the story, clearly embarrassed.
