"You think she's alive?" I asked as I avoided tree roots beneath my feet, wandering the woods in the middle of the night was my least favorite past time. But that didn't matter to my dark and brooding best friend Derek.

Derek's sister, Laura, has been missing for the past few months. She came back to the town where we all grew up, Beacon Hills to find whatever she'd been searching for the last few months. I lost contact with both of them for a while so I wasn't exactly sure what she was looking for.

I rolled my eyes as I got no response from Derek, I should be the one brooding considering how much I don't want to be back in this damn town. But Derek knows that I can't say no to him. I just hope we find her quickly so I can leave as soon as possible without running into my family. I do not want to have the conversation about why I left them years ago, they wouldn't believe my explanation anyways. How do you explain to your dad and brother that werewolves roam the earth and you're one of them without needing to be locked up in Eichen house.

"Just try and get a lock on her scent so we can find her" Derek said as he walked in front of me. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, focusing on Laura, focusing on her scent. I opened my mouth to tell Derek which direction to go when I heard a loud howl from not too far away and by the look on Derek's face, he heard it too.

He looked back at me and I shrugged and we both ran off in the direction the howl had come from. We arrived to the spot where we heard it come from, but nothing was here. "What the hell was that?" I asked as I looked around. Having the sudden feeling of being watched.

When Derek didn't answer once again I furrowed my brows as I walked over to him, I looked at him, then at where he was looking. And what was in front of me was something I could not of prepared for.

Laura hale was not only missing, she was dead. The bottom half of her body was gone, the blood covering the ground, making the brown leaves appear bright red, reminding me of a fall day when the sun shines on the colored leaves in the trees.

"That means there's a new Alpha... wonderful." I said sarcastically as I continued to stare at Laura's body. This town never surprises me with the supernatural.

The cold nights wind blew making everything seem colder and darker. I knew this was only the beginning of something bigger.

"We gotta give her a proper burial, help me carry her home." Derek said as looked over at me. I looked up at him and sighed, taking off my jacket and placing it over her body.

Derek picked up her body and started walking in the direction of the Hale house. Or what's left of it, it burned in a tragic fire years ago. I started to follow him when I stepped on something hard, I lifted my foot and looked down and seen what looked like an inhaler. I raised an eyebrow as I bent down to pick it up. I put the inhaler in my pocket and followed Derek to the Hale house.
