They had them. The shop actually had the flowers that Cameron had half frozen to death on the walk for. In person, they were really quite magnificent but he still saw them like any other flower, just colourful petals that usually smelt nice.
Once he had them wrapped and carefully packaged, the florist insisted on arranging them as they were for a wedding, about ten minutes laterCameron was finally on his way again. There was at least half an hour before he was due at the park which was a relief; while some of that would be spent walking, it was just about the perfect amount of time to make the last few calls.
Number seven, the call he'd then shortly made after leaving the second florists, had to be the most uneventful of them all; and while it hadn't been the girl, it hadn't even been interesting like most of the others. It was just some guy who answered in the standard way, confirmed he was in fact not the girl Cameron was seeking and ended the call. It was probably the way most of the other calls should have gone but he just happened to have the numbers of more than average people for most of them.
The realisation that there were only three calls left now that he'd made call number seven hit home. As he was allowing a little bit of time to pass before he made the next call, wanting to properly prepare himself, a horrendous noise erupted from his stomach. Cameron had just hit the outskirts of town, heading back to the park which was in the centre of town, and a few unsuspecting pedestrians looked at him briefly with amusement.
Covering his stomach in slight embarrassment, he smiled at them as he quickened his pace and glanced at his watch. He couldn't believe he'd allowed himself to go so long without eating anything! He'd gotten so caught up in the day that he'd forgotten he hadn't had lunch before leaving for work. The only thing that had been consumed was a large coffee and the long walks in the cold wouldn't have helped his hunger.
Knowing the town layout well, Cameron headed down a different street that would still take him to the park but also allowed him to detour past one of the best food places that would be open at such an early time of the afternoon.
Once stood outside the shop, he tried to figure out if he'd gotten it right. Granted it'd been a few months since he'd visited the place but the name was completely different and so was the set up inside. Knowing there wasn't enough time to find another place to eat and still make it to the park, he ended up shrugging to himself and began to head inside. As he entered, two people walking past near by expressed how the food quality was nowhere near as good as the previous establishment.
The food they actually sold was similar to the last shop so he didn't have trouble ordering however the people outside may have been right, Cameron thought to himself. It seemed very understaffed and stains were all over the tables, even the ordering counter. It was too late though. If the food was bad, he decided he'd just throw it away.
While waiting for his food to arrive after ordering, he stood wondering whether to make the eighth call when a small commotion erupted in the order line.
There was a guy in a crisp white shirt and smart slacks, not a coat to be seen, which was definitely not your usual customer in a place like this; then again it was one of the few food places open before evening in the small town Cameron had noted. The fellow was patting all his pockets in a suppressed but all the same, frantic manner. He gave the teen cashier an uneasy smile.
"I think I may have forgot my wallet."
The cashier didn't know what to do, and made it obvious as he cluelessly shrugged at the smartly dressed man. "I don't have time to go get it though." The man added though it wan't like anyone around seemed to care, everyone else in the line pretended not to know what was happening. The guy looked like he was about to shamefully leave when no one stepped forward and the cashier didn't suggest anything else, so Cameron did. The order didn't even make it to five pounds, it wasn't a ridiculous amount. He held up a fiver to the guy, not giving him an option to refuse.
