"Sure is, I'm rarely here, if I do ever get around t' sleep at all that is. But I reckon it's more comfortable for ya here then in that cold place in the tower. S' not quite as dingy here." The doctor murmurs awkwardly, the proud smile on his lips however unmoved.
And from what you could tell, he seemed genuine in his concern, so you took it with a meek smirk. "Thanks, really, I appreciate the thought." You chirp gratefully, playfully bowing with a overactive gesture. That careless, swiftly elegant move however made the makeshift knot on your towel loosen.
You're face felt burning hot at the realization the very second the towels textile almost slides off your slightly built frame, as you barely manage to catch it and push it to your body, barely hiding your features. It was a chore to choke up a quick apology through your embarrassed jittering.
"Ah-I'm sorry, that was clumsy and unthoughtful of me." You stammer, fixing the cloth around you again, making sure to pull it tighter this time. A lot tighter.
"Hehe, isn't it a tad bit t' early t' get undressed? I thought ya were such a modest little peasant." Jamie mocks you more playful than anything, walking over to a dark wood closet, pulling out a clean, white lab coat.
"This should do, I hope. Better than that rag anyway." He announced, handing you the coat together with some other clothe which you take appreciating.
"Thanks, I appreciate the thought. And I have to say, you're being a lot nicer than I initially thought you'd be." You mindlessly announce, instantly coming to bitterly regret your words as he looks at you with startled expression as you say so, hastily following up that heedless statement with a poor excuse.
"Ah, no, that came out all wrong! I'm acting such a oblivious cretin today, probably the exhaustion. In any case, I mean, the rumours about you are a lot less pleasant than you have actually been thus far. It was supposed to be a compliment, but my choice of words of uncalled for, so let me try again: I am pleasantly surprised, thankful and glad to be here, with you." You stutter, watching the smile on his face blank away for a moment, replaced with a gloomy stare.
The pointy teeth of the pale man started grinding together angrily, obviously he was aware and unapproving of what the community thought of him and his "immoral" work. And of all he stood for. He abruptly turns away to the wide window, almost a bit melodramatic in his stance, the rain still beating against the blue tinted glass in unrelentingly, melodic intervals.
"These dimwits, these peasants are mere figures in this game, they have no right to mock minds so much higher than their own. They don't know what I have in store for them. How dare them laugh at someone superior to them in every way. I don't care what they say, these filthy humans don't know what they're talking 'bout. I am the genius here, and I will be the one with ta last laugh in this. These things are no fellow creatures of mine. Wait and see Y/N, when I am successful at last, they will all regret the day they laughed at Dr. Jamison Junkenstein. They will pay in blood and fear." He snarls, the sudden wicked slur in his voice sending a shiver up your spine.
It seemed more like he was talking to himself rather than to you. Yet, it felt like a threat, a resentful, vindictive threat. He was really intimidating when he talked like this, too, so unlike from how he behaved before. You can clearly see Jamie's shoulders trembling as he leans his elbows on the windowsill, rubbing the side of his skull anxiously. It wasn't hard to tell that he needed some solace.
So you timidly walked up behind him, placing your hand on his back, stroking it ever so gently; which surprisingly seemed to work as he basically melted into the touch. Like some stray dog who wanted nothing but some affection.
"No need to get worked up, good doctor. I mean, let the people talk, that's what they do best when the days get shorter and colder. You know they wouldn't understand, how could they? They fear what they don't comprehend, and your science appears to them like something otherworldly and frightening. They only want to see are monsters, not saints. I should know after all... And you do good in relating to my experiences, it may just soothe your soul." You murmur reassuringly, making him turn his attention back to you.
