(Why there more of this trash now? Because it's October, that's why.)
The sun's rays peeked through the thick sheet of autumn foliage that hung from the branches like crimson and tawny dress swaying around in the meek wind. It was unusually warm for the early weeks of October, and the streets of the small town of Adelsbrunn were filled with buzzing life, with maidens meandering over the market, or children's content laughter echoing from the meadows beside.
You had missed those streets, those large pathment rocks leading up the hill to the towering castle you still knew like the back of your hand, and you had missed that slightly constricted feeling in your throat it gave you; a meek sensation, like moments before one throws up. And you had missed that feeling this place had in your heart, one of indescribable nostalgia, and one of horror, pain, wandering hand in hand with endearment and childhood contentment.
It had been a good two years since you had been this close to this place, and now, even laying eyes on it made your skin crawl, not out of fear, but out of excitement, out of somber, out of anticipation. The witch of the wild didn't know you were here, she trusted you enough to let you take a few weeks off on your lonesome.
The last year's had taught you a lot, you had accomplished the mastery of several powerful spells and curses, had spent many a night working for hours on end just to one day come back here, where you belonged and your heart ached to be; and Angela had been pleased with your progress, so she let you go for a while. It had been rough, but you knew you weren't helpless anymore, you were so much more than the naive peasant girl that stumbled down this exact path a few years back, drenched in rain and drained of all hope; and you had decided it was about time to visit a old friend in the childish hope to maybe set things right, to return to how things were before it all went so wrong.
However, no magic in the world could have given you enough self certainty to stop your fingers from trembling when you knocked at those all too familiar doors of the castle, no amount of brash wit could have taught your skin not to lose colour as you waited for that familiar face of a stranger to greet you; of a man that had long since forgotten your name, your face, your touch. However when the wooden door opened, you were, to your genuine surprise, not met with the sharp, wan face, and the amber eyes you expected; it wasn't Junkenstein to open that well accustomed door on that meek autumn day.
No, your eyes were met with the bright ones of a woman, dark, verdant eyes, deep, searching, shrewd. She was a good head smaller than you, her rich, black hair hanging from her head in ordered curls that reached down to her gracefully domed chest. Or to make it simple, she was stunningly beautiful, and obviously a royal woman, it wasn't hard to tell by the sleek, silky gown that hugged her feminine frame all too fittingly.
When she spotted you, standing there in your dark-grey hood that was tattered by the years spent away, which now hung deep in your probably melancholy, tired face like a long shadow, she seemed taken aback; but not fearful. "Good evening madam, what brings you here on this fine evening?" The lady inquired politely, her voice sweet and silky and honey, she had a voice one would expect from a sopranist in an opera.
Even in your surprise to find her opening the door and not the person you had expected, hell, had yearned for since years, you render a faint curtsy before replying. "Good day, I wanted to apply as assistant for a few weeks, or as chemist, to be exact. I am in need of a place to stay for awhile, and I have heard my knowledge might be helpful here. The names Y/N, by the way." You introduce yourself chipperly, a bright, yet shaky smile forcing itself to your thin lips.
You were startled by the woman, as well as mildly concerned, and you began to slightly regret not checking in on the place every so often. Who knows what your spindly friend had been up to in two long years? For all you knew he had married this woman, had two kids by now, and frankly it wouldn't surprise you too much; even if the idea etched your heart like a strong acid. Being forgotten was a hard truth to swallow. The sable haired lady however openly mirrored your smile upon your introduction, opening the door further to gesture you inside.
