Chapter 7 . . .

There was a sound.

I stopped and looked around me. It was probably around midnight, I had been walking for so long that I'm sure I was long gone from the motel. I couldn't see the moon well so there wasn't enough light to help me see.

I had to stop breathing just to hear and see what was out there. A few seconds later, I saw.

I stepped back, in fear. It wasn't that I was scared of it; I feared we had been caught.

A big wolf stood there taking small, slow steps towards me. Its big green eyes looked at me with curiosity and I was wondering who side it was one. He wasn't attacking me or asking questions, he just stared. Then it hit me: he was a Rogue.

A Rogue was a wolf that didn't want to be in the command of any King or Queen. They wanted to live a free, wild life and what better place then to do it on Neutral grounds? They didn't need any wolves to keep people away because they welcome anyone in here.

So, here is where all the Rogue wolves came. They couldn't go out in the mortal world and live in the woods because they weren't allowed. They couldn't risk our exposure and the only one's who did go out were trained wolves who were part of the Watcher team.

''What do you want?'' I asked him.

''I see your bleeding.'' It ignored my question, which was annoying. ''How did you hurt yourself?''

I think it was scared of me. A lot of people nowadays hunted wolves on the Neutral grounds for their fur. They either took them out by magic or hand. Most of them now go in hiding because they are scared. This one probably thought I had been fighting one and killed it and was now scared.

''I punched a wall because I was mad.'' I said blankly. It was interesting to see a wolf talk. I don't get to see it much and it always fascinated me. ''What are you doing out here so late?''

''I should be asking you that? People need more sleep than us.'' He shot back.

''What's your name?''

''What's yours?'' he retorted.

I gave a small smile. ''Fair enough, Valencia.''

''Just Valencia?'' he asked with eyes that gleamed with interest. ''You're being talked about. You and two other kids from Hernand, that have been taken by Demark people.''

Are people back home still thinking it's like that after the encounter with the wolves? Or are they just saying that to the people so they won't think that a couple of teens, one that is well known with a good reputation, committed treason and that more people had to be careful with their kids? Either way, I was happy that the people didn't know the last part.

''Is it true what they say?'' it asked.

''Sort of,'' I answered. ''Listen, do you know how far away from Demark we are?'' I asked.

It suddenly occurred to me that I nor Edward or Katie knew exactly where Demark was since we never have been there. Andrei could easily be leading us to a trap somewhere else.

''Demark?'' the wolf scoffed. ''You far from there and from where you were last spotted. You've gone south, love. Demark is a few says from here.''
