"Thank you for the ride to the airport Dr. Shepherd." Hadley Summers smiled at her colleague. They had worked together on the President's research project, and they would soon work together again at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Derek was going back to Seattle to be with his wife, Meredith and their three children. When Hadley had told Derek that she too was leaving Washington D.C. to get a fresh start, he decided to recommend her to his chief for a job.

"No problem, Hadley. And you can call me Derek." He grinned.

"Great." She nodded. "Will do." Hadley was beyond grateful for Derek. From his recommendation to his endless kindness, it was a relief to already have a friend in a new town.

As they continued down the road, Hadley noticed a sleek, black sports car sped past Derek's car and the SUV in front of them.

"Look at this asshole." Hadley scoffed. "It's probably some old dude trying out his new mid-life crisis car."

"Probably." Derek muttered, letting out a laugh. The driver began to drive much more recklessly, swerving towards the SUV.

"Derek he's gonna hit that other car!" Hadley said urgently.

Just as the words left her mouth, the sports car slammed into the SUV, sending them both flying. Derek slammed on his breaks to prevent the two of them from adding to the wreckage, and saving them both.

"Oh dear God." Hadley sighed. The black car was flipped upside down, while the other vehicle was turned over on its left side.

"I'll get the driver, you take the SUV." Hadley instructed.

"Okay. I have a first aid kit in the trunk." He told her.

"I have one in my bag. It's in the front pouch." She informed him as she flung her door open. Derek tossed her the kit and she caught it before taking off towards the black car.

Hadley laid flat down on the pavement to peer into the window of the car, only to see that nobody was in there.

"What the hell?" She muttered. As she got up to take a look around, a desperate voice cried out. "Help!"

Hadley followed the sound of the voice to the edge of an embankment. When she took a look, she noticed a teenaged girl lying in the ditch. Hadley didn't hesitate to run down to her. She wanted to assess any injuries the girl may have had, but she couldn't do it while down there.

"Honey, what's your name?" Hadley asked her.

"Alana." She groaned.

"I'm going to help you up. Can you walk?"

"I think so." She winced.

Hadley carefully lifted her off of the ground and half guided, half dragged her back up the embankment.

"Charlie." She muttered.

"Charlie? Who's Charlie?" Hadley asked, alarmed.

"My friend, I guess." Alana replied.

"You weren't driving?" Hadley demanded, exasperated.

"No." She shook her head.

Hadley helped her sit down on the pavement. "Stay here. Don't move. Okay?"

Hadley started down the road to see if Charlie has wondered off, and sure enough she see him limping down the street.

"Charlie!" She called out, hoping he'd hear her.

He turned around. "Yeah?"

Hadley had to stop herself from gasping. Charlie had a humongous, gaping wound in his head. She sprinted towards him and took the loose flap of skin in her hand. She pressed the skin and her hand into his head to try and prevent some of the bleeding, but it became difficult as he collapsed into her arms.
