Ace sat up, and looked at his alarm clock. The clock had read 6:04, but his bus didn't arrive until 7:00.
He lay his head back, thinking. He lives in the attic, because his aunt did not have any guest rooms to stay in.
He doesn't mind it there, finds it comfortable and enclosed. His own personal space.
"A new school, and a new life...finally." He said softly to himself.
After about 10 minutes of laying in bed, aimlessly staring at the ceiling, he sat up, and got prepared for school. New books, new pencils, new backpack, new folders, new everything. He thought about all the successes so far of this transfer to a new School.
Then a thought crossed his mind.
What if I'm not good enough? What if I don't fit in? What if it ends up like my last school? What it, what if, what if?
He then stopped.
"Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, come with an open mind."
Realizing it was already 6:40, he opened up the hatch and lowered the ladder to the second floor of the house.
The house was empty, as both his aunt and uncle were already off to work.
A note, with a warm grilled cheese was on the table. Ace picked up the note, as it read,
Have a good first day at school!
- Aunt Liz
Ace set the note down, and picked up the grilled cheese and ate it as fast as he could. He grabbed a water bottle from the fridge, and ran outside. "6:57" he said.
After coming to the corner where his bus should be, he stood awkwardly, as there were three other kids around. Two sophomores and one Senior.
He stood in between the Stop sign and the senior, and rested his head against the pole that supported the sign.
No less than three minutes later, the bus pulled up. Ace was the last one to get on of the four at the stop. He chose an empty seat, somewhere near the middle of the bus, and sat silently. Put in his earbuds, and listened to music.
He was one of the first stops, and the bus was decently empty. He shut his eyes, not aware that he was falling asleep, and passed out within seconds.
Ace awoke 20 minutes later, coming to the last stop, less than 1/8 of a mile away from the School. He adjusted himself as his backpack was crushed against the bus walls. He looked around, as subtly as he could. The bus was almost packed. Ace took a sigh of relief, as no one pulled any pranks on him whilst he was asleep.
Once he stepped off the bus, he pulled out the note from his back pocket.
"Meet in the Planetarium, upstairs, down the right hall, first door to the left." - Principle Alex
He followed the instructions, which led him to the planetarium door. After stepping inside, the Principle, a security guard, and a guidance counselor were waiting to schedule him, for the remainder of the year.
After he had his scheduling done, he was allowed to take a solo tour of the school. He started browsing around the school, getting to know the place. He noticed certain groups of people, all in order.
"Too organized..." he thought to himself.
Two other Juniors approached him.
"We hear you're the new student! I'm Patrick, and this is Steven. We're in a study hall now, so we volunteered to help you with your tour."
Ace was at a loss of words but managed to utter, "nice to meet you both. I'm good for now, but maybe at lunch I'll need some help."
The three talked and learned they all had the same lunch together, so naturally they decided to meet up at lunch, and help Ace get adjusted to his new school.
On his way to lunch, he tilted his head up and said,
"This might not be so bad..."
