Chapter 3 - Going To Get Really Tired of It, Really Fast

"I have what?!" I practically screamed at him.

"You have lung cancer, which is probably why you have been feeling dizzy and light headed lately. We have been testing it since your last visit."

Thank god it's not Adem. I thought to myself.

"So, what's this mean?" I asked him.

My mother just sat in her chair beside me, squeezing my hand a bit too tightly, but I can't blame her. My whole body tightened, yet it slumped all at once. Hearing news like this, the silence was deafening.

"We will need to do excessive tests to figure out exactly how your body will react to this, but it will take a while. It's good we caught it so quickly. We found signs of it from the notes from your last visit, like I said earlier." Doctor paused, looked at his  clipboard, and frowned, "but this means you will not be able to continue school any longer." He finished. My mouth dropped. I didn't know whether to be excited or sad.

"I will let you guys get home but I want to see you in the next three days so we can start tests." I got up to head to the car with my mom but I was still paralyzed by the news.

                         - - -

I got a text from Lesley.

Lesley:

Hey, are you okay? You left school so quickly.

Lori:

I need to call you when I get home.

Lesley:

Okay. You alright?

As I was about to text her back, we arrived at home. I ran up to my room as soon as I got inside.

I called Lesley as I plopped myself onto my bed and once she picked up and asked, "what's wrong?", the tears rolled hard, down my cheeks and soaked my pillow.

"Come over...just please please please come over!" I yell through the crying.

About 5 minutes later I hear Lesley running up the stairs. She bursts through my door and practically jumps on my bed with me. I bounce a little when she does.

"Honey, what's wrong?" She asks with concern lacing all throughout her voice.

I hand her the paper with my diagnosis on it that Dr. Rork had given me before we left.

"Oh my gosh! Honey, is this real? You're not joking with me because this is the worst joke ever." She started to cry herself and I just nodded my head yes. I fell into her lap and we stayed like that for a long time.

I heard a knock on my door a while later and noticed that I had fallen asleep and judging by the amount of light outside, or lack of it anyway, it was pretty late. Lesley must have asked to stay with me because she was asleep too, still holding on to me. I slid out of her arms to get my pj’s on, and she sat up, and asked to borrow some until tomorrow, since it was going to be Saturday.

“You okay?” she asked me while I reached into my closet to get bottoms.

“Yeah, just a lot to take in, ya know?” I replied.

“Yeah.” she looked away and back at the pillow.

My mom slipped into my room and said something, but my ears made everything muffled. “What?” I asked her to repeat.

“I’m taking you back tomorrow.” she said. “And Lesley’s coming too.” she finished. For some odd reason a slight smile crept across my face, but it was a sad one.

I threw a pair of tweety bird pajama shorts at Lesley and they landed on her head.

“Um, really? I know you have cancer and all but shouldn’t you still throw the same?” she teased. I had been the girl’s softball team’s best pitcher the seasons before I started to get weak (so this season). I shot her a devious look. “Too soon?” she said and we both laughed, and it was a real laugh. After that we just went back to sleep cuddling each other like the best friends we are.

“Wake up, your appointment’s in fifteen minutes!” my mom yelled from downstairs, which woke both Lesley and I up.

Waking up at 6:00 in the morning better not have to be a regular thing for this cancer and school.

I got up and threw on some gray sweatpants that were cinched at the bottom and pulled them up a bit, then put on my black uggs and a medium tee shirt that had Hunter Hayes’ new album cover on it.

“Well, you sure do look ready.” my mom says sarcastically as me and Lesley stomp down the stairs in similar outfits, (of course, she had to borrow my clothes).

“Back again, I see. I’m sorry.” the secretary lady said when we walked up to her. She reached for my hand, but I just yanked mine away before she even got close. Obviously we were back again, and I’m going to get really tired of the “I’m sorry’s” really fast. Already was.

Hey Guys!

Sorry, I know this is a short chapter but it's coming along really well so far!

I'm going to try to update a new chapter everyday because each one is being pre-written.

Thanks for the reads and try to check out my other books too!

For all the pansycakes <3
