Lukas's PoV
Two days later..
I entered the school, nervously wondering how would everyone react. I knew people wouldn't dare to taunt me but I know they would talk about it behind my back. Suddenly, someone barged right into me, making me almost fall over.
"Lukas? Is that you?" Jess exclaimed, still holding my hand, since she caught me before I fell. I nodded silently. "Wow." she smiled, "You look so different. So... smart." I looked at her incredulously. "Seriously? I look like an egghead." I mumbled, pushing up my thin wire rimmed glasses. Glasses of all things!
"So that's where you went." Jess mused, still looking at me. "You never call, you never text." she sang, giving me her thousand-watt smile and making my heart feel like I had run for miles. "You didn't even give me your number." I said. I was glad that Jess liked my glasses. That was the major thing. As long as she liked it, I didn't care what others think.
Jess nudged me and took my brand new phone. Because of my father, who was the best dad in the world *gag* I decided to finally work at a book store, just some time to get away from my dad, and a way to read all the books in there without anyone bothering me.
And because of that job, I was able to afford better things. I was almost free of my dad's prison."Hey Lukas-!" I looked up to see Aiden, Maya and Gill. Maya stopped short when she saw me with my glasses. "Whoa. Nice looks." Aiden said, looking at them. I felt a bit shocked. Aiden Renner. Complimenting someone? That was unheard of.
"And who is this chick?" Aiden asked, looking at Jess. She raised an eyebrow at him and glared. "Hello Aiden Renner." she said, all playfulness gone. Aiden laughed, but in a mocking way. And once I heard him, I knew he was drunk. "Hello." he said. I didn't want to explain to Jess so I said, "This is Jesse Collins."
The three of them looked at Jess, their eyes wide. "What? JESSE, YOU'RE A GIRL?" Gill blurted out, making Aiden smack his head. Jess stood her ground, and folded her arms. "No, that's a different Jesse. And if I remember correctly.. you were the one who beat up all those kids. Olivia, Cassie, and even Lukas." she said, making Aiden suddenly look cold.
"Hm. You're a smart person." he said. I could sense a fight coming on so I took Jess's hand to stop her from stacking Aiden. "Aiden, just go." I glared at him, "Remember what you promised."
But I knew he wouldn't remember. He was drunk. And once he was drunk, he couldn't remember anything. "I didn't promise no shit." Aiden said, getting hostile. Jess looked at me as I stared at Aiden. "Then what? Let's just get inside." I said quietly. Trying not to lose my cool.
Aiden cracked his knuckles, making me know what he was going to do. "Aiden, we're not going to fight." I said fiercely as some of our schoolmates surrounded us, egging us on. "Scram!" I shouted to the crowd but they didn't obey. "Get him Aiden!" someone called.
"'I'm betting for Lukas, idiot!" another kid yelled.I looked at Jess, who seemed frozen. "What's wrong Lukas?" Aiden sang, starting to circle me. I glared at Aiden. "Stop it Aiden, you're just drunk. Get over it!" I exclaimed. Aiden stopped and smiled. "Well, I guess you're right. But I cant resist this fight, Fletcher." and he raised his arm to hit me.
I didn't know what happened but in that one second, but Jess stepped in and Aiden hit her, straight in her stomach. "Oooh!" the crowd murmured as I caught Jess. "Jess. Oh crap." I murmured as someone pushed their way into the circle.
"Break it up, people!" our teacher said. I had to control myself not to hit Aiden. "I want. to. wipe that smirk off your goddamn face." I growled at Aiden as I held Jess, who was still breathless. I still couldn't believe she took a punch for me. "Break it UP!" the teacher yelled, making the students around us mutter among themselves.
"Idiots." Jess whispered, standing up and holding her stomach. I understood how she felt. Aiden's punches were not meant for girls. "Lets just get you inside." I said, helping her up. "And Jess..." I murmured as she looked at me. "Thanks for sticking up for me."
