Where I die with the Laufeysons

-

"Whenever you're ready!" Loki shouted across the pool.

Sarah took a deep breath, and dived into the pool. A few moments later she resurfaced at the other side, and hoisted herself onto the edge, where she regained her breath.

"Sarah Wilson, check," Loki muttered to himself, making a mark on a page scribbled full of Asgardian writing.

"Next up, Penny Maximoff."

Penny breathed in slowly. She'd continued practicing that morning, and still hadn't made it to the other side once without cheating.

The only other person who had failed the test thusfar was Diana. Nutmeg had crossed the pool with ease, surprising everyone, and Michael had joked that she'd swallowed one of Stark's breathing-underwater-tech devices.

The twins both teleported the first time they tried, and then Loki pointed out that they weren't allowed to use their necklace and watch, and so they did it again — Loraine made it with only a little effort, and Michael had a bit more trouble, but they both made it in the end.

Penny had no doubts about Rocky's ability to complete the test, and Sarah had already made it. Chelsea too had succeeded; she'd made a small forcefield filled with air that she'd taken along, but she only used it once.

Which left Penny.

She sighed, procrastinating as long as possible. Then she realized that that was all she was doing — procrastinating.

Penny took a deep breath, and dived.

Just over halfway, at fourteen metres, (a new record!) she stopped time and burst out of the water.

For a long time (poor Pietro) she pondered her next actions.

She wasn't going to stay behind with Diana.

Penny dived back underwater, after smoothing out a few ripples (there weren't many because she'd stopped time before surfacing) and allowed time to resume.

A few seconds later, she touched the other side.

Sarah cheered, and Loki checked her off on his list. Next up was Rocky, but Penny wasn't really paying attention.

She'd done it. She'd cheated.

She sort of wanted to tell someone. Just to confess, to get it off her chest. But she didn't.

It's my prank on Loki, she told herself, but she didn't believe her own excuse.

Rocky completed the test with ease, of course, and Loki started annoucing something. Penny had to force herself to listen.

"All right, so all of you will be coming to Eniram," he began, "even Diana, although she failed three out of five tests."

Diana had failed the climbing, swimming and flying tests. She'd only succeeded in the ones everyone had succeeded in; speed and fighting.

Loki ordered them all to fetch a set of dry clothes, but leave their swimsuits on.

Almost ten minutes later, they were boarding the jet.

"Where to, Low-Key?" ASSASSIN3 enquired.

"It's Loki," Loraine corrected.

"...or Thranduil," Michael added under his breath.

"To Eniram," Loki replied, "do you know where that is or are you as stupid as the average piece of Midgardian tech?"
