Twilight 4

That Monday, Winny was so excited she could hardly stand still, and she was leaping around like a cricket on caffeine. Up until her sister had moved to Forks, she'd ridden her bike to school in all weather. Whether it was raining, snowing, or sleeting she had climbed onto her bike and ridden the three miles to school and back for the last three years. But now that Bella was there, she had assumed that Bella would drive her to school, like all the other older girls did for their younger sisters.

But when she woke up that morning, it was to watery sunlight streaming in through her cracked curtains, and a note on her pillow from her father telling her that her sister had left for school early so she could learn her way around. Winny was disappointed but she didn't let it show as she got up and got herself ready for the day. And remembering how her sister used to loathe the very sound of her name, when she got to school and saw Bella sitting in her truck killing time, Winny was nothing but sweet as she gave her sister her best smile, waved, and made her way to her first class.

That day, all everyone could talk about was Bella, and because Bella and Winny obviously shared a last name the first person everyone came to for gossip on the new girl was Winny.

"Is it true that your sister, Bella just moved from somewhere like Phoenix, and had to leave because she was too pale?" Jessica Stanley, one of Winny's friends, asked as the two girls walked down the hallway towards Winny's last class: biology. Since she had gotten to school that morning, she'd been receiving all kinds of strange questions in accordance to her sister. Most of the time they were the average gossip about broken hearts and secret pregnancies, but Jessica's question about Bella literally being kicked out of Phoenix was easily one of the weirdest ones she had heard all day.

"What?" Winny sputtered a laugh as the two of them came to a stop outside of Mr. Banner's classroom. "No way, she wanting to come visit Dad and I while her mother traveled with Phil."

Winny could see Jessica's next question fast on the heels of her answer, but before she could ask the bell rang and Jessica let out an unladylike curse and spun to book it down the hallway for her next class. Winny couldn't help but smile as she stepped the rest of the way into the classroom and took her spot next to Angela Webber, another of her usual friends. Winny had been studying in the library during lunch, which she tried to do at least once a week, and hadn't been able to talk to Angela during lunch. She had been informed by Jessica though that her spot had been filled with her sister so she wasn't too upset about the development. If Bella had friends at school then she would want to stay and Charlie would be happy.

Mr. Banner was at the front of the room getting ready to start the lesson when Bella stumbled into the room with a slip of pink paper in her hand. She looked around at all the entire staring at her, her eyes caught on Winny's face, and she blushed deeply. She and Mr. Banner mumbled to each other for a second before Mr. Banner pointed her towards the last empty space beside Edward Cullen and Winny heard Mike scoff behind her. Clearly she had missed him falling in love at lunch.

Class was long and Winny was bored, they were going over the stages of mitosis in a lecture and Winny already knew the material. One of the boys on the reservation had been struggling with homework last year and asked for her help. She'd spent the night on the internet and went back the next day ready to tutor him.

She was nearly asleep when the bell rang and Angela elbowed her in the ribs to get her up. Winny had opened her eyes just in time to see Edward spring out of his seat beside Bella and dart out of the room like the devil was after him. She then watched Bella sniff herself self consciously, and she nudged Angela back.

"Can you go talk to Bells and see if she's okay?" Winny asked the dark haired girl quietly. Honestly over lunch she was sure Angela had spoken more words to her sister than she had the entire weekend that Bella was unpacking, and after that morning she wasn't so sure bella would want to say anything to Winny, let alone unload her problems. "I need to go talk to Mrs. Rasler about the essay she assigned earlier and I think Bella needs a friend."

Angela thankfully didn't question Winny further, before she nodded and stood up to walk over to where Bella was fending off Mike's advances. Mike had kept up as soon as Edward had, and had made it over to Bella almost as quickly as Edward had disappeared. And Winny was left alone, to go talk to the teacher about a make believe essay.

Since Winny didn't actually have anything to do, she was halfway home when Bella's truck passed her, not even slowing down. Winny hadn't expected anything less but when it began to sprinkle and Winny had forgotten her coat, she couldn't help but envy her sister who was warm inside the truck's cabin
