"You could've at least warned me!" I yell up at White's shrinking silhouette. I sigh, and sit down cross legged. Trust me, it takes a lot of skill to sit down while falling.
After a few moments, I land in a small room. It has a domed roof with black and white stripes and spots covering the walls. To my left, I see a small, ornate side table, with a small golden key and a small vial filled with blue liquid. Upon further inspection, I see the vial has a tag with 'Drink Me' written in curly handwriting. Hmm... Just like the story. I turn to my right and see a small door. Might as well do it right. I grab the key and place it in my back pocket. Then, taking tiny sips, I drink the liquid in the vial until I'm about the size of a Barbie doll. I walk around the table until I find a small wooden box with the tag 'eat me'. Inside, I find a small piece of cake. I wrap it up in the thin, silky cloth that was underneath it, and place it in my pocket as well, along with the now half empty vial. Just in case. Then I walk over to the door.
"Hello." I say, and the doorknob opens its eyes. I smile. Just as I thought.
"Hello..." It says in a deep, drawling voice.
"If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to go through." I say, holding up the key.
It narrows its eyes. "What's your name?" He asks.
"Alice. But I'm not the Alice, I'm afraid."
"Oh I can see that. You're much more clever." He says approvingly. "And, you don't seem to cry nearly as much." He adds. "Nearly drowned last time." I nod. "How'd you get down here anyway?" He asks. "Not following that damned rabbit I hope."
"Actually I was. But not like the original Alice. This time he literally dragged me along."
"I see. Well, if you want to get into Wonderland, I must warn you. It has changed a lot since the last Alice was here. The whole of Wonderland has fallen into darkness. It's now a land full of carnage, bloodshed, and madness."
"Sounds like paradise." I say, smirking.
"Very well. Go on ahead." I nod, and open the door. What awaits me, despite the door's warning, is not at all what I expected. Everything looks black, withered, and dead, and the sky is a deep red. Everywhere I look is an image of death or misery.
This is the fairytale place that so many children have dreamed of, the place that is the home to one of the most cherished stories in the world? This is Wonderland?
