Really? Really Alice? You get kissed by two guys and shut down? Grow the fuck up and deal with these things.
No, I'm not talking about Ches and Hatter, although I will deal with them later. I'm talking about the ten-or-so card soldiers that are surrounding me. Unlike Hatter and friends, the card soldiers look almost identical to their Disney counterparts.
They've been standing in a circle around me for about thirty minutes, just staring. Ive been in a bit of a daze, looking down most of the time, so I could probably pull off pretending like I didn't see them.
So I pull open the door of the car and get in, looking like a lost puppy. Believe me, I can be quite the actress when I want to be. I leave the door slightly open, and I grope around for the bag holding my stuff. I almost break character and smile when I find it, and I search for my dagger. When I find it I position my body to vault from the car, directly into one of the card soldiers.
I brace myself, almost positive that I'm going to end up impaled on one of the spears held by the card soldiers. But, no time for fear. Time for death.
I jump out of the car and run to the card soldier in front of me, and cut its throat. Instantly, five soldiers are charging towards me, the other four not far behind. I turn to face them and swing my knife, honestly just hoping I hit something. I slash at them until they push me back to the car, and I'm cornered by two of them. I'm sure that I'm going to die, but I give one final slash. Sadly, I barely graze them, so I close my eyes and await the blow that will end my life. Yes, I'd normally try to go down with a fight, to go out kicking, but I just don't have it in me. Who would really miss me?
Instead of getting speared and seeing the 'light' or some crap like that, I hear screaming. I open my eyes, half expecting to see some magestic savior, but all I see is the card soldiers writhing on the ground in obvious agony. The rest are doing the same or are dead.
So, I'm standing there, with my bloody knife, watching the card soldiers die slowly and painfully, when Hatter shows up.
"So that's it." He says, and I look at him, feeling very contradictory emotions.
"What are you talking about?"
"Your knife."
I look down at my blood soaked knife, and look back up at him, puzzled. "What about it?"
"It is the sister of the vorpal blade, but much more powerful. The vorpal blade was made to oppose the Jabberwocky. This was made to destroy. It's name has been lost to time, but one thing I do know is that it will only show itself to those it deems worthy to weild its power. If someone unworthy has the misfortune to touch it, they are instantly burned. If blood is drawn by the knife, their blood will turn to fire and the poor soul will die in absolute agony."
"But..." I resist the urge to throw it away from me in fear that it will suddenly burn me, and grip it tighter instead. "But I'm touching it."
"Then you must be worthy to weild its power." He pauses, studying me. "A special paled for a very special girl." He steps forward, his hand extended, but I step back, ensuring that there is at least a few feet of room between us.
"No. Nu uh. Nope." I sputter, eyeing him warily. "That's cool and stuff, and thanks for telling me all this, but I'm not gonna deal with your weird emotions. I'm supposed to be here for a reason, and I'm pretty sure that reason is not to deal with your bipolar ass.
He steps back, obviously confused and a bit embarrassed at my outburst, a little tinge of red rising to his cheeks. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"Sure." I say snappily, cutting him off. "Of course you didn't mean to kiss me, then run off like a weirdo. Of course you don't mean to act all sweet one moment and then bitchy the next. You didn't mean to, but you did. So stop. I'm done with your bullshit." I take a deep breath, attempting to calm down. "So where is everyone else?"
