Suspect

"Miss miss." I felt someone slightly shaking my shoulder sending me into a panic resulting to me punching the stranger in the face.

"I'm so sorry" I blurted as I tried to get out of the bed but I came to realization that this wasn't my bed

I looked to the thing restraining me from helping the stranger. That's when I caught on that I have a needle piercing my left hand.

what am I doing in a hospital?

"Don't get up you might get hurt or something." The guy stood up and I realized how much taller he was compared to me.

He rubbed his cheek and soon after stood straight and looked directly at me.

"I didn't mean to—" I tried to subdue the fact that I hit him in the face.

He was so tall and his body was well built. Well telling from the police outfit he must've had the heck of a training.

But what's a policeman doing inside this hospital room nevertheless with me?

"No miss it's fine." He said and smiled making a deep dimple pop on his right cheek.

"Don't call me miss it's making me feel old. I'm Natalie. You can call me Nath." I extended out my arm for him to shake and it made me jittery as he accepted my gesture.

"Okay Nath. I'm Alexander. You can call me Alex. It's a common name I know." He giggled and I swear it was the cutest thing ever.

"I don't like common so I'm gonna be calling you Lex" I pointed out and we both just burst out laughing.

"If I may Nath can I have an interview first for the investigation?" He held up a clipboard and I realized what happened last night wasn't just one of my nightmares. It was real.

"Wait—What happened last night? Did—did someone really—really" I gulped staggering back but luckily Lex was able to hold my arm and direct me the bed and I sat there as I begin hyperventilating.

"Yes. You must still be in shock. I'll be—"

"Who died?" I cut him off. I remember it vividly now.

The figure got hit in the head with a knife that came from nowhere.

"Her name is Danielle Rayn. What is your connection with her?" It felt like my soul left my body as he mentioned the name.

She's dead.

She's so young yet she's dead.

"My sister. " I looked up to him and begun tearing up.

"My sister is dead... She—" I busted out crying and tears fell faster than raindrops could ever.

"Nath." Lex moved closer and gave me a few pats on the back still keeping his distance.

I broke down.

My sister, Danielle, was only 16. She could've had so much to do with her life.

"Please Nath. We need to know what happened in order to begin listing the suspects. According to protocol you're first on the list." My eyes darted to meet his.

"I didn't—I didn't kill her." My sobbing didn't cease but only worsened.

"Don't worry. Just tell us what happened." He moved closer to me with caution and sat beside me putting a respectable distance between us.

Breathe in, breathe out. You need to tell him what happened.

"I was—I was just walking." I breathed deeply and it aided me to stop my stummerings.

"Just like always. I walked and it was dark. Really dark and it felt as if the moon hadn't even thought of giving light to the heavens. As I walked I saw a shadow behind the light of my gate. The figure didn't say anything. That's when a knife darted out if nowhere and I was able to miss it but it went straight to the figure. I wasn't able to think so I ran directly into my house." I could barely think about the incident.

"So did you see the person who threw the knife?" He jotted down notes as I spoke.

"No I didn't." I tried so hard to recall if I even had a glimpse of the murderer but I didn't. It was so dark behind me that time.

"Maybe even the shadow? Or anything?" He gestured his words to me and I tried to tell myself that he needed this to find the suspect of Danielle's murder. She deserves justice and I deserve the truth.

I kept my mind running recalling anything that could lead me to the suspect.

"Oh I heard whistling." His eyes lit up as he noted the clue.

"It was a song I'm sure. An extremely creepy one for sure. There was no one except me, my sister and the murderer since it was late at night. I'm certain that that wasn't my sister. She is too jolly and she loved love songs and didn't listen to anything but soft pop music." He was well focused on writing down the details.

"Thank you. I'll have to go for now and clear up the issue." He stood up and cleaned up his clothes.

"Ok." I spoke softly from the exhaustion I was in.

"Take care and make sure to rest." He gave me a sweet smile before twisting the door knob.

"Wait." I stopped him in his tracks.

"Please find the suspect. My sister deserves justice." I pleaded and he gave me a reassuring nod.

"I promise I will." The door creaked as he left.

My sister is gone. She's gone forever.

What was the murders intention? Why didn't she say anything when I called her out? And why was she outside when it was really dark?

So much questions flooded my mind.

But I cleared them all as I made a promise to myself.

I'll find out who that person is and why he or she killed my sister.
