Amelia was nervous. Starting a new job would do that. This would be her first job in just over a year so her anxiety was skyrocketing.

This was step two of her fresh start. Returning to teaching was a no-brainer  for her but the only problem she had was finding a place to teach. She wanted to get as far away from her ex as humanly possible and thankfully finding this job didn't take too long.

The job description was fairly usual; requiring certain qualifications, experience, passion and patience with the children etc. The only thing that made her pause was the last line: must be willing to undergo blood test. Amelia was all for the standard background test but drawing blood was a bit far-fetched in her opinion.

However, beggars can't be choosers and it was the only listing that provided accommodation and needed someone to start straight away, which killed two birds with one stone. So after calling up Imperial Moon Primary school to make sure everything was legitimate, she felt comfortable complying with their strange request.

Everything after that went well.

A moment later, she was called in. Principal Callan was seated behind her desk. Her office was cluttered with miscellaneous papers and folders strewn about here and there but it made the office feel cosy.

Amelia didn't know what she was expecting but Principal Callan's appearance wasn't it. She looked like she should be walking down a catwalk not sitting behind a desk in a primary school. She knew she would be young because of the multiple phone calls they exchanged over the past month, but she never expected this.

She tried to subtly adjust her face, praying Principal Callan didn't notice her shocked expression but thankfully, she was typing something on her computer so her attention was elsewhere.

Principal Callan's head snapped up suddenly like she was startled. She raised her perfectly arched eyebrow in confusion, looking at Amelia like she was a ghost before speaking. "Amelia? Amelia Daniels?"

"Yes, that's me" she said with a nervous smile.

The principal took a deep breath before shaking her head as if dispelling a ludicrous idea. "Please have a seat" she continued on, telling Amelia the basics she would need to know and giving her all the correct paperwork, like nothing just happened.

Other than that weird moment, the meeting was fine. She could almost see herself being friends with the principal. They were almost the same age and she genuinely seemed like a nice person, if not a little quirky.

On her way out of the office, she didn't mean to eaves drop but she heard the principal say in a hushed, panicked voice "You need to get down here as soon as possible!" She wasn't sure what that was supposed to mean in terms of her and her job but she wasn't going to pry.

Lunch time rolled around quickly. Amelia was really enjoying herself so far and it brought back memories of her old teaching jobs. She was already fond of the children in her class and she was enjoying getting to know them. That was a big worry for her; how well the children would accept her but they were all wonderful, even the 'naughty' ones. She noticed they were all full of energy and very friendly which she was thankful for.

She made her way to the staff room, only making one wrong turn along the way which she counted as a success.

She kept a smile plastered on her face, refusing to let nerves get the best of her as she walked into the staff room.

The other teachers all seemed shocked to see her but she still did a small wave nonetheless. They must have known a new teacher was coming to takeover the Year 1 class. She also didn't miss the way they all quietened down either. Not one of them said a word as she sat down at the communal table. Was there something on her face? She couldn't understand why they were all gawking at her like that.
