PSYCHE BITCH, THERE IS NO PROLOGUE.

I GOTCHA!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA (I need help)

Stasia's POV

As a child I was always afraid of the darkness.

Being an orphan I didn't have my parents to comfort me, to embrace me and to protect me from it. The rough streets of our small village, the unnerving looks from strangers, the harsh weathers did not do much to provide me with a haven either.

It wasn't all that bad though. I wasn't the most unfortunate. I had my friends with me, they were the only ones who I could relate to and they could to me.

Before it happened, I used to be very talkative. Astella couldn't get me to shut up. During those times, people couldn't tell if she was younger or if I was.
We were an inseparable gang, the six of us. The gang consisted of Astella, Crystelle, Samuel, Jackson, Ryad and I, all of us abandoned by our bearers. We had promised that we would take care of each other. We would get by by stealing food from the vendors. Whenever one of us got caught, the others would rescue him/her. We roamed the streets freely. You could say that we considered ourselves to be the rulers of the world, the rulers of ourselves.

If only we knew how wrong we had been.

Just like all the other villages and towns, ours was under an Alpha as well. A new one had been appointed only a week ago and everyone was already speaking of his ill treatments towards the humans. Rumors of him enslaving humans disseminated all around us.

It was another day for us. We were running around the village, our feet barely touching the ground making us feel almost as if we were flying.

Astella, being the fastest amongst us, was running in front of me who was followed by the three boys and Crystelle who already looked out of breath.

"Why don't you try catching up to be, Sia?" Astella taunted me by looking back at me and sticking her tongue at me.

I was going to give her a snarky reply but instead my face morphed into that of horror as I watched Astella bump into someone and fall onto the ground. I was by her side at once, helping her up while the other four laughed at her. Though their laughs weren't loud enough to cover up the gasps that could be heard around us.

"How dare you, you pesky human?" A voice boomed. It was as if the time froze, everyone had stopped what they were doing, looking at the ordeal that was taking place in front of them. "Who do these children belong to?" It was the person who Astella had bumped into. His fine clothes that couldn't seem to cover up pot belly and frightening eyes were enough for me to match them with the description of the new Alpha.

When no one replied, it was the person next to him who took a step towards us. "I believe it's those orphans we've been hearing about, Alpha."

The alpha's eyes immediately lit up with recognition. He then proceeded to let them roam on Astella, Crystelle and I, his eyes looming over me who was trying to covering Astella for a fraction more. This stare was completely unnerving, reminding me of those drunkards that we would often encounter at night. We would usually run away from them or the three boys would somehow chase them away. But this time, all of us knew that we couldn't. We weren't fast enough to run away  and neither were we strong enough to chase him away.

"Well then, we should be helping the town in clearing the streets. Wouldn't want any trash lying around, would we? Mathew, load them up in the truck with the others. Take them to the house." He ordered his accomplice.

"Right away." The  man replied and motioned towards others who immediately moved towards us.

"We won't be going anywhere with anyone!" Astella declared as one of the men tried separating us from each other. "We definitely won't be going anywhere with you fat man!"

"Ella!" I called out  to her  in desperation, knowing that it wouldn't end well if she continued.

The stout Alpha raised an eyebrow at her actions. "One with a rebellious mouth, are we? I'll be sure to find some appropriate work for that little mouth of yours."

"I think you should put your legs to work. Maybe then you'll be able to fit in your clothes." Astella snapped back.

His hands were balled into fists now. "Let her go." He commanded to the men holding her. "Come here." He ordered Astella and motioned with his fingers.

Astella hesitated but when pushed forward by the men behind her, walked to the Alpha until she was right in front of him.

"If you are prepared for throwing out words like that, you should be prepared for the beating that you deserve after it as well." One of his hands slid down her cheek and onto her neck while he spoke. He then continued to grab her collar to lift her body up slightly.

"Get the rod." His order was immediately followed and soon he had an iron rod in his other hand. "I shall let this be an example for all of you who think defying me is going to get you anywhere." He lifted the rod and swung it. I could hear the others gasp behind me, waiting to hear the impact.

"STOP!" I yelled, I couldn't let her get hurt. I had promised her that I would always protect her.

The Alpha's hand stopped mid-air. He turned his face towards me, a slight smirk forming onto his face. He had expected this. He knew I would protect her as soon as he saw my form over hers when she had fallen. "I'm afraid I can't stop. I need to set an example. Someone needs to take the punishment."

"I-I'll take the punishment." I replied almost immediately.

"NO!" Astella screamed as the portly man handed her to Mathew.

"Well, we don't have all day. Come now." He motioned with his rod. I was let go from the hold and moved towards him.

"Since you are such a kind person to sacrifice yourself for your friend over there" He motioned with the rod again. "I'll only hit you on the head."

My eyes widened at his statement. Only?

"What? You think that's gonna hurt you a lot? I can think of a lot of other places that are gonna hurt even more. Would you like for me to display?" He questioned to which I replied with the shaking of my head. "Very well."

He lifted and swung his rod again and the gasps followed it again. This time there was an impact. I don't remember much of it, I fainted right after it.

What I do remember is waking up in the dark. As soon as I opened my eyes, I heard Astelle calling my name while Crystelle and Jackson were crying only to be comforted by the other two boys comforted them.

"Where are we?" My voice coming out really harsh. Probably due to the lack of the water.

"We have been put in some room by the Mathew guy. He said they'll be here to give us our work soon." Ryad informed me.

"How long ha-have I been out?" My  head was starting to hurt again as I tried to concentrate my eyes in the darkness.

"Around a day." Astella spoke from beside me.

"I see." I sighed. "Ella could you turn the lights on, if there are any here. It's really dark here, I can't even see you guys."

"Sia" Her voice trembled. "The lights are on."
