Stasia's POV

Initially, it was hard adjusting to the sudden darkness. Sometimes I would wake up expecting to be able to see but as time faded away, so did the hope.

The Alpha never let a doctor examine my injury. Apparently it was part of the punishment. I didn't retort, afraid that I would be punished again.

We all were made to work at his house. I would often get punished for dropping the expensive vases. This time the punishments came in the form of a cane tearing the flesh of my back.

The fact that Astella's relationship with the Alpha wasn't the best didn't help either. She would keep retaliating and I would keep getting punished for it.

It went on like this for 3 years. Astella had grown up to be 12 years as well and with her, her comments seemed to have grown snarkier too. She could tick off the people around her very easily. Ryad and Samuel were also 12 and had somehow managed to become even more mature than they were before. Crystelle and Jackson, being 11, were still the emotional fluffs of the group.

I was 13 by now. The more I aged, the lesser I spoke. I had adjusted to the house by then and could get by by myself. My body was adorned by the scars inflicted upon me. The Alpha made sure that I was always fully clothed so that I didn't disgust those around me. The scars that he seemed so disgusted by, he didn't even blink an eye while he gave me a new one.

Though he rarely punished me anymore. It seemed that he had grown bored of the cane and other equipment of torture since I had stopped responding to them. He was looking for newer ways of causing me pain.

He found one on my 16th birthday. It was night when I was ordered to appear in front of the old man.

"I heard that it's your birthday today. Is that correct?" He spoke as the door behind me was closed and I heard him move to lock it. "I know that you can't see. But you can certainly speak when questioned, you wench." He growled.  I turned my head slightly towards my left to try and locate him precisely by the sound of his voice.

"Yes, sir." I replied monotonously.

"Well, everyone certainly deserves a gift on their birthday." His voice came from right behind me. "Even a small dirt like you. Don't you think so?"

"Certainly, sir."

"You're almost an adult now. How does that feel?" When I didn't reply one of his hands trailed along my neck. "A girl like you" He began. "A girl like you will never get a guy. You will never be able to get pleasure from someone you like...No one could love those god awful scars. They're revolting to see much less touch. I will help you there. As a gift from me to you for your service these years."

I didn't reply to him. I didn't speak a word when it happened or even when he threw me on the ground like a piece of trash after he was done.

It was the only time that I was thankful for not being able to see. I was thankful for not being able to see the face that would cause me nightmares for the rest of my life. Though it wasn't hard to picture it.

4 more years flew by when she finally came. We all had thought of her to be a light in the darkness, unaware that she would soon be the reason of darkness all over the world.

Esme is what she called herself as she introduced herself to the Alpha. Everyone who visited the village had to meet the Alpha first.

I was standing beside where the Alpha was seated and  Astella stood by my side.

"So what are you here for, lady?" The Alpha questioned her.

"I'm here to rescue all the humans from your cruel ways." She replied with a certain chirpiness in her voice. "and I'm here to kill you."

"What?" He raged. "What did you just say?"

"I'm sorry he is a little hard of hearing." Astella informed the lady. She then spoke a little more loudly. "She said that sh-"

"Shut up, you insolent bitch. I heard what she said." The Alpha replied. "You" I assume he pointed at the witch. "You are going to kill me? You are going to rescue them?" I assume he pointed at us when he spoke the latter.

"You don't have any idea who I am. So what makes you think that I can't kill you? But I take my word back. I won't kill you, the girl will."

"Who? Astella?" The Alpha chuckled loudly.

"No, the one beside you." Her reply was as dark as her soul. "I can see how much she wants to kill you and I am going to help her do just that."

She spoke some foreign words and the groans of the guards followed. The Alpha tried to move from his chair but couldn't. He yelled at the woman to let him go at once but ignoring him, she called out to me. "Stasia, is it? If I allow you to kill him, would you want to?"

Everything was happening so fast that I couldn't even process it. Only a moment ago it was another day of being caged for us, and now it seemed as if we were going to be free. Somehow it reminded me of the time when we were taken. How happy we had been. The time when I was still able to see.

I nodded at the lady and suddenly a knife appeared in my hand. I turned my head towards Astella and she, on understanding my signal, guided my hand to the Alpha's chest. Putting some pressure on his chest with it, I spoke. "Name."

"D-Don't kill me, Stasia! Please!" He begged.

The tough old man seemed to be scared of a knife. Who knew?

"Name." I repeated.

"Thomas Everfield." As soon as he replied, I drove the knife through him. I could feel it move through his flesh and bones.

I would be lying if I said that it didn't feel satisfying to me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the incident, the woman had offered all the humans and even the werewolves to join her. She had told us of her plans. It was our choice whether we wanted to follow her or not.

Astella didn't even hesitate to swear her loyalty towards her. I couldn't let her go alone, so I agreed. So did Ryad, Samuel and Jackson. Crystelle ,on the other hand, wanted to live a normal life. She decided to part with us. We didn't want to let her  go but we couldn't force her to risk her life either.

I never understood the witch's principles and what she preached. The dark part of me could relate to her a little but I couldn't reason with what she wanted. Yet, I stayed and trained hard under her guidance.

I remember the day very clearly. The witch had forbidden our group from participating in the battle and had stationed us in the forest. I didn't really mind it but Astella sure did. The respect she gave to the witch wouldn't allow her to just stay back. The four of us had to literally hold her back.

I remember it when Esme's daughter pierced the knife through her heart. I also remember when the arrow that was meant for her, pierced through the man who had been previously compelled by Esme.

I remember it all very well.

After all, I was the one who shot the arrow.
