Stasia's POV
A correction to my previous statement. Their eyes had been more on Crystelle than on me as one of them spoke. "She's pretty. Her friend looks like she'll beat the shit out of you if you try anything though."
"It's a good thing that her friend is my mate then." Every word that came out of his mouth felt so void of emotions but at the same time felt like there were thousands of things he wanted to say.
"Tsk Damien, you're so bad at getting a hint."
"Don't pretend like you didn't get it wrong either Rome!"
I stood up from my seat and turned to Crystelle. "Let's go. I think we've had enough for today." I spoke to her, hoping that those who were listening in on our conversation get the meaning behind my statement.
"B-But Sia.." Her voice came out low. She had been listening to them too.
Giving her a small smile, I held my hand out for her to hold which she took after a slight hesitation and we moved towards the door.
A quick movement behind me caused me to turn around. The movement had been so quiet that I hadn't realised about it even happening until their shadow was hovering over me, begging to be noticed.
"You do realise what mates in the werewolf world mean, right?" Though he phrased it as a question his tone told me that he already knew the answer. "You may leave now but I can't promise to stay away even if I want to. The mate bond will not allow me to do so."
Turning my head up to give him an illusion of me looking at him, I replied monotonously. "Unfortunately for you, I am a human and I do not feel the way you feel. Therefore, I cannot reciprocate the feelings of your so called "mate bond" and neither do I wish to. It'd be better for both you and I to forget about this encounter and move along with our lives." I had already realised from his statement that he wasn't interested in having a mate either, it was the mate bond which was forcing him to want me.
"Like I said, I can't promise to forget and stay away but if you are as uninterested in this as I am then I will try my best to stay away." His voice was so cold that it made me wonder for a second if the temperature of the room had dropped suddenly.
"I'm glad to know that we have come to a conclusion." I gave him a professional smile and turned back towards the door, walking out of there.
"Are you fucking kidding me Theo? We travelled all around the world for you to find your mate and now you're just letting her leave and saying that you aren't interested in having a mate? Why didn't you tell that to us while we were searching for her all these months! Would've saved us a lot of trouble, don't you think so?" The female's voiced boomed across the café, loud enough to pass through the glass windows and fall into our ears as we made our way across the street.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When we had reached far enough from the café, Crystelle let go of my hand and came to a sudden halt. "Sia, what was all of that?"
"You're gonna have to be clearer than that while asking your questions Crystelle." I replied, turning around to face her.
"Well where do I begin? You have a mate! Why didn't you tell me? And why did you just reject your mate?" She blabbered out her questions as fast as she could.
"I don't know where you should begin. Apparently, I do have a mate and I didn't tell you because I didn't know so myself. I didn't reject him because to reject him, he has to want me. He mutually agreed with me not wanting to be held by a bond. I don't have time for all that Crys, you know that."
"But this could be your opportunity to be happy Sia. For fucking once in your life you'd be able to depend on someone and not the opposite, why not go for it?" She whined.
"Who says that I'm not happy right now? And the last thing I want is to depend on someone. You know very well where that brought us." I reminded her of the past.
"If you keep thinking about the past, you'll never be able to live in the present." Her reply came out low.
"Love, you do realise that the past consists of me working for the witch that wanted to destroy their community? What do you think they'll do when they realise that? They are the people who were personally involved in it." I hissed back lowly, only for her ears to hear. "I don't want to talk about this anymore, let's head back home. Like I said before we've had enough for today."
I didn't wait for her reply and started walking back home listening silently for her footsteps to follow, they soon did.
As we reached the entrance of our home, I put one of my hands into the letterbox to check for any of the mail only to feel a few of them thrown carelessly inside. I took them out and went inside the house.
"What's in the mail?" Crystelle asked while washing the dishes as I sat down on the kitchen counter with the letters.
"I wish I could tell." I handed out the letters to her. "Mind going through them for me?
"Hmm" She said as she flipped through the mail. "They're mostly bills."
"As always."
The sound of the papers stopped and I could tell that she was holding her breath.
"What happened? What is it?" I questioned.
She let out a deep breath before speaking. "Sia..I know this handwriting. It's from Astella."
"What does it say?" I tried to keep as a straight face as possible.
She read the letter out aloud for me.
"We're in big trouble. We need your help, Sia.
