a/n: just to be clear, the reader is an adult and is older than Shuri, they just happen to be best friends. enjoy!
When you were a child, you used to play hide and seek in the palace with Shuri and T'Challa. Years later, you're still playing hide and seek, but now it was only you and T'Challa.
You two decided to keep your relationship a secret for now, mostly for Shuri's sake. You could only imagine the wrath of fury she would release on you if she found out you were dating her brother. No one knew, except for Okoye, of course. You would sneak around the palace and kiss behind closed doors. Sometimes, he would brush his hand against yours in public and send winks your way. You would just shoot him an aggravated look back, but you loved when he teased you.
It was kind of fun keeping your relationship a secret, but you also wished you could tell everyone you were dating the king of Wakanda, you were so proud. You wished you could walk through the city together, hands intertwined. You wished you could peck his cheek or give him a hug in front of others, but for now, you would have to settle for what you had.
Shuri had invited you to dinner with the royal family and the counsel, so now you sat in the grand dining room at the long table with heaps of food in front of you. You were stuck between T'Challa and Shuri, just like you were in real life.
"How have you been, (Y/N)?" Queen Ramonda asked you.
"Good." You beamed at her. She was like a second mother to you.
"What have you been up to?"
"Nothing interesting. I mostly spend my days in the lab with Shuri." And making out with her brother, you wanted to say, but you omitted that part.
"Is there someone special in your life, (Y/N)?" Ramonda asked, grinning.
Okoye looked at you from across the table with a knowing glint in her eye. "Ew, gross." Shuri grimaced. "(Y/N) doesn't have time for that stuff. She only has time for me."
A smile toyed at the edges of T'Challa's lips as he kept his eyes on plate. "Actually, I have been seeing someone recently," you said. You felt his warm hand rest on your thigh, sending chills down your spine.
Ramonda smirked. "Oh, really?"
Shuri's eyes went wide. Her fork clattered against her plate. "Who?"
"I don't want to say. I don't think anything will come out of it." You shrugged, purposely taunting him.
He gave your thigh a squeeze, as if to say "You're mine." You jumped in your seat, causing your knees to hit the table, and T'Challa retracted his hand. Shuri looked over at you quizzically. "Are you okay?"
You plastered on a smile. "Yep. Just stubbed my toe."
"Oh." She glanced over at T'Challa for a moment before going back to her food. Underneath the table, he tapped your leg twice, which meant to meet him in his room later.
After dinner, everyone left the dining room while the kitchen hands cleaned up. Shuri grabbed your arm. "Let's go down in the lab for a little bit!"
You shook your head. "I can't. I have things I have to take care of at home."
She crossed her arms over her chest. "Okay, fine. Go run off with your mystery boyfriend. I'll see you tomorrow."
You laughed. "See you tomorrow, Shuri."
You headed towards the front door, but before you could leave, you whirled around to make sure she had gone. When you didn't see her, you changed directions and navigated the winding halls to T'Challa's bedroom.
He was already there waiting for you when you got there. The sound of the door clicking shut made him look up. He smiled when he saw it was you. "My love."
You ran towards him and jumped on him. He caught you swiftly, whirling you around in circles. You both laughed before he set you down. "I've missed you." You pouted. "I feel kind of bad, though, for ditching Shuri."
"Oh, she'll be fine." He waved it away. "She got to talk to you during dinner while I had to pretend like I didn't even know you."
"When are we going to tell her?" You pulled back to look at him. "As much as I enjoy sneaking around with you, it would be nice to tell people about us."
"We'll tell everyone once you think something will come out of this." He teased you.
You wrapped your arms around his neck. "Well, then, why don't you show me?"
He grinned before pressing his lips to yours. You gripped the back of his neck, deepening the kiss. You ran your finger over the nape of his neck, his weak spot. He hummed with approval against your lips and picked you up again.
You let out a yelp as your feet left the ground. He took the opportunity to slide his tongue into your mouth. Your tongues fought for dominance, but he quickly overpowered you. He laid you down on his bed and climbed on top of you. His lips attached to your neck as he sucked on your skin.
"T'Challa, don't leave a hickey!" you tried to whine, but your voice was reduced to barely even a whisper. You grabbed fistfuls of his shirt and sunk into the mattress. Then, you heard the sound of the door creaking open.
"Brother-" you and T'Challa tried to separate in time, but it was too late. You looked over at Shuri, and it was like her eyes were about to pop out of her skull.
You sat up, flustered. "Shuri!" You hopped off of his bed and ran over to her. "Shuri, it's not what it looks like!"
"So, you weren't just making out with my brother?" She squinted her eyes at you.
"No!" You looked back at T'Challa, and he shot you a look. You sighed and hung your head. "Yes."
"So, what? Are you guys dating?" You nodded. "How long has this been going on for?"
"Only for a couple of weeks." T'Challa joined you at your side. "Please don't be mad at her, Sister. If anything, you should be mad at me. I was the one who convinced her not to tell you. Please, take your anger out on me, not her." He placed his hand on your shoulder.
Shuri looked back and forth between you and T'Challa. Her expression was unreadable. "Take my anger out?" Suddenly, her face broke out into a wide smile. "Are you kidding? I'm so happy! I can't believe you didn't tell me!"
Now, it was your turn to be shocked. "You're... you're happy?"
"Of course! I could tell you've had a crush on T'Challa forever, (Y/N), and it was pretty obvious that you liked her too, Brother. I just thought I would've had to be the one to get you two together."
T'Challa's jaw practically hit the floor. "So, you're not mad? Not even the tiniest bit?"
"No! Now, when you marry (Y/N), we can literally be sisters!" She wrapped her arms around you and squeezed.
"I think you're jumping the gun a little bit, Shuri." You laughed.
"Oh, please. You two are meant for each other." She let go of you.
You looked at T'Challa. "I guess this means we can make us public now, if you want, of course."
He smiled and took your hand. "I would be more than proud to tell everyone that you're mine." He pressed his lips to your hand, and you blushed. He pulled away and smirked at you. "Besides, did I not just prove to you that something can come out of this?"
"Speaking of," Shuri interrupted, "as happy as I am for you guys, what I walked in on was pretty traumatizing." She clasped a hand over her mouth. "I think I need to go to the bathroom."
She sprinted out of the room and down the hall, leaving you and T'Challa to laugh alone together.
