Chapter 7

‘’Flash Back’’

All that happened in a short matter of time. Paula didn’t even have a clue that I had a thing for Ian. Sure I didn’t tell her because I think that would be AWKWARD. Few people knew what I had really felt.

Really few and it was only Hanna and Lorraine. Lorraine- the dumbest and funniest friend I ever had. She was plain funny without any effort and most of the times, annoying. But whatever she may be, we love having her around. Hanna, on the other hand, was a 100% straight-forward person and the kind of friend that was never ashamed of her views, opinions and actions.

I stared at my computer monitor, played the videos I had almost two years ago. We were in Disneyland- the place where we didn’t have to think about anything but fun.

I was running and we were very happy (Ian, Paula and I). The background was filled with little kids and tourists from different parts of the world.

It was part of our World Tourism course and it was our first time to be out of the country so it was a pretty awesome experience to us.

We somehow got a break from all the school papers, exams and projects even if it was just three days and two nights of complete happiness. It was our little getaway. Far from too many responsibilities so we made a promise that we will make the best out of it no matter what.

At the mountain space, one of those ‘’kiddy’’ rides in Disneyland or so we thought, was the first one we got on. It was pitch dark inside.

‘’this one’s boring’’ I said a matter-of-factly when the ride was just getting started.

‘’hmm. Yeah, you’re right. Maybe we should try the other rides later’’ said Ian.

He was sitting in front of me and beside him was Paula while I was sitting with my friend who’s also my roommate- Lyn.

All that we could see there were mountain-like images and small light depicting stars. The ride was slowly moving up. It was like climbing a mountain. Great, I thought. Climbing mountain in space. Mountain space. As the ride was about to end, it took a dive. It was like we were falling from the sky. The stomach was pulled by gravity and we all screamed. We were all surprised from what had happened.

When the ride was over, we jumped out of it. We all looked pale and scared. Like we saw some ghost in there and sipped all our bloods. We all looked at each other and then we started laughing.

‘’Boring huh’’ Ian said looking at me laughing.

‘’hey, I wasn’t the only one who said it was! You even agreed to me. And let’s all admit it, we didn’t see that coming’’ I retorted.

‘’Yeah, totally. Our pale faces say so’’ Lyn said looking at our faces.

And then we all laughed again and agreed that we would ride once again.

Ian and I were closer than ever back then while Paula kind of distanced a little from the two of us. We were inseparable. He even slept at our hotel room one time because we were talking about something and he said his roommate must have locked their door and he can’t get in.

I woke him up at 3am to tell him we would be dead if our professors’ find out he slept at the girls’ room. He made his way to their room and we laughed at it when we saw each other that morning on the tour.

We were like the three musketeers on the tour; always together, seated on the same row in the bus. Trying out all the same foods and all the rides we possibly can.

I will always miss the bond we once had. There’s this special ingredient in us that no matter what happens, we’re just simply close to each other. Like brothers and sisters and I liked it that way. Although we are still close now, it was not like two years ago when we actually tell everything to each other.

We got busier and busier. We minded our own businesses and went separate ways. There were just so many different factors that affected our bond: School, love life, personal problems, schedule and conflicts.

When we hang out, it was either for school projects or seminars which was kinda sad.
