I still felt unmistakable despair as I made my way through the twisted metal corridors and halls. Every now and then I'd hear footsteps and I'd hide. I'd hear screams, human and monster. I'd see soldiers hidden in corners, their odd new weapons at the ready. I didn't see any Hunters.

Every now and then, I'd see people rushing, fearful. One woman with a baby in her arm had stopped me, urging me to get to the lab.

However, I kept walking in the opposite direction. It felt like a long walk, my legs feeling weightless. My heart heavy. My knuckles were pale from holding on to my stake so tightly. From the occasional windows of houses, I could see that my eyes were bloodshot and I had apparently been crying.

I thought of eveeyone I loved. Where were they now? Were they one of the bodies I'd seen in the Square? Were they newly made Sixth apart of the frightening Inferior? That thought only made me walk faster - until I eventually broke out into a run that brought hell to my bruised body.

Despite the pain, I ran. I ran and ran and ran - right into a group of Sixth.

Their backs were to mine. They were all hovering over a dead man. I stayed hidden around the corner now, trying to think.

The Sixth were blocking my way to the Commanding center. I'd have to get through them somehow. However, there were eight of them and one of me. I didn't have any backup. I was alone. Alone and vulnerable.

I decided I would just have to run. I would have to run as fast as I could. Run and hope I was moving faster than they were. Ms. Newton would probably shake her head at my foolish plan. It was stupid and absolutely crazy. I was injured and outnumbered.

But I needed to find my Dad.

I slowly edged out from behind my corner, stake on the ready. They still hadn't spotted me. One of the Sixth had started to feed.

'You can do this, you can do this, you can-'

A loud deafening boom! startled all of us. I fell to my knees with a gasp. It wasn't the voice of a scream.  No, it was a loud explosion. I quickly covered my ears just as they popped painfully. The Sixth were hissing and screaming but abandoned their prey.

In a eye-catching flash, they were gone.

The explosion had come from the commanding center. At this realization, I forced myself up. I felt nauseating pain spread across my body as I stretched my muscles. Damn, Silk, I thought angrily, Damn her and that bat!

My muscles protested as I stumbled towards the commanding center, my legs threatening to give out on me. With a cry, I stopped my fall, catching the edge of a wall just in time. I used the support to push my way through the doors of the commanding center.

Smoke filled my vision and suddenly I couldn't see.

I coughed violently, trying my hardest not to breathe in the sulfur. I tried to take another step foward - only falling on something hard. I seen red and orange flash across my eyes. I had fallen on something metal.

Then I felt arms underneath me, raising me up. "Get her out of here!" I heard a man cry.

Get out? No, I couldn't. I wouldn't leave. With all my might, I thrashed around in the man's hold. I kicked and I elbowed. I heard  the man grunt but he didn't loosen his grip.

I could see again as I was dragged away. The office was filled with smoke, so much that I couldn't see anything inside. However, soldiers had rushed to the control room door, weapons aimed.

Remaining Hunters were taking down the eight sixth.

"Let me go!" I managed to scream and the man let go of me. Looking up, I gasped. It wasn't just any man. It was Mr. Lance, Dylan's father.
