My vision blurred into dark vertical lines - and then I seen the bloody gravel floor. I stumbled upright, turning to face my attacker.
I was pretty sure I screamed. Elena towered over me, fangs bared in a shriek. She was a blood curdling monster and I couldn't see anyone I knew in her anymore. I quickly scanned my surroundings, relieved that my stake was a few feet away.
However, Elena's eyes followed mine and she seemed to snarl again. With a deep quick breath, I rolled over towards the stake just as Elena, in just seconds, came down upon it. She kicked the stake a few yards down towards the light I thought I'd seen.
I realized then that I was standing on a pretty thin line. How would I be able to kill a Sixth without a stake?
I got to my feet, only to realize my injuries were coming back with a vengence at the wrong time. My breath caught as I fell to the ground again. Elena said something, She said something I couldn't hear and then tossed her head back in laughter.
In a way, I was relieved I had lost all my hearing. I didn't want to hear her taunting. I didn't want to hear her talk of my father or my home.
My hands traced the back of my head quickly. I was bleeding again, my hair matted with blood.
Elena took a step towards me, a frown settling upon her monstrous features. She bent down until she was face to face with me, her hollow black eyes reflecting my own face. However, I didn't look scared or frightened. I wasn't.
She said something else and I did my best to follow her words. Now I knew how hard it was for Conner to follow conversations. Elena seemed to talk so fast I could only get a few words from it all; 'With me'
I didn't have to understand the rest. With all my might, I punched her, sending her face jolting backwards. I knew it wouldn't do much damage but it seemed to stun her. She staggered back, holding her face with both hands.
I stumbled on to my feet, my legs threatening to give weigh. I couldn't get a good posture on my ankle so I instead hopped only to lose my balance. However, I was much closer to the stake then I was before. All I needed was a good reach.
I scraped my hands against the gravel, trying to push myself closer. I gritted my teeth, trying my hardest not to cry out. I had to do this. I couldn't be a little girl. I couldn't be a baby. There was no one here to save me, my life, for the first time ever, was on my own shoulders.
I felt something cold grab on to my ankles. Tears forced to give weigh. It was like putting soap on to my wounds. I could feel the burning excruciating pain as the cold hand tugged on burnt skin.
Yet I didn't look back. Instead I clung to the ground, still trying to get to that stake. With my other leg, I tried to kick, however Elena only pulled me away from the stake, scraping nearly my whole body against the hard gravel.
I could feel my skin and clothes tearing.
Elena was straddling me then, her fangs glistening in the dim lights. Her nails buried themselves in my wrists and I bit my bottom lip until more blood was drawn.
She opened her mouth again and I turned away, trying to avoid her teeth. She smacked my face towards her again. I could feel my cheeks reddening. 'Welcome'
Then I felt it.
I felt the most petrifying pain. The most terrifying pain filled with adrenaline and agony and...and bliss. It was the pain I feared. The pain that I'd rather take burning alive over any day. The pain that made you wish for death and heaven all at the same time.
The pain of being turned.
The pain of being bitten.
