"I don't know anymore," I mumbled, nestled against Dylan on his vintage bed in the cozy condo he lived in with his Dad. Luckily, his Dad wasn't here tonight. "I don't know if everything is going to be okay."

I shivered, thinking about Christine's monstrous screams. How she didn't seem like herself. How in just that moment she had turned so sick that she'd been a monster. I'd only had my friend for two days at the least. Two days. Now she was back in the labatory.

"Well then maybe you should just hope," I heard him murmur. "Maybe you don't need to know everything."

I stared at the old posters from the 'Golden' years of humanity; the early 2000s. Lexi and Kia were obsessed with that era and it seemed Dylan was too. Posters of old singers and movie posters decorated the walls.

"Alina?"

I looked up at him to see his worried expression. "I probably shouldn't tell you," He sighed. "You're already in enough stress."

"No," I said quickly. "What is it?"

"Well, I've been assigned for the search team this week," He said sheepishly, eyes lowered. "I might be gone for awhile."

I contemplated this. Someone else in the dangerous ruins of the world. Someone else in the clutches of Elena and her twisted sixth army. Thinking that way only made my heart pound in my ears. "Then maybe I could go too."

"No, Alina," Dylan had my face in his hands. "I'll be fine. We'll bring David back."

"But I don't want you to get hurt out there," I said breathlessly. I remembered the fast movements of Elena and Alec. How they seemed so invincibly strong. "This is my mess anyway."

Dylan shook his head. "You put everything on your shoulders, don't you?"

"I wasn't like this before."

"Its admirable," He smiled warmly then kissed me lightly on the cheek. "Its what I like about you."

"Yeah and you're stubborn, cocky, immature at times and-" He broke my sentence with a kiss. A kiss that literally made me forget everything I had just been worrying about.

I kissed him back, running my hands through his soft hair. He was on top of me, pinning me there to the bed.  My fingers trailed down the hard abs underneath his white tee.

"Stubborn?"  He was still kissing down my neck. "How am I stubborn?"

I could barely think. "You can't take no for an answer."

I felt him grin against my neck. Then he looked at me with almost a worshiping look in his eye and kissed me again.

I leaned up, still locked in his embrace. I was trying to roll on top of me  - however we ended up on the hard metal floor only cushioned by a thin blue carpet.  Luckily, Dylan got most of the fall. We both stared at eachother, wide-eyed.

Then I coudln't help myself. I broke into laughter and so did Dylan.

I got to my feet, still shaking with uncontrollable laughter. Dylan rubbed the back of his head, a goofy grin on his face. "Well, that went well."

I grinned back, turning to examine his posters once again. I studied the pictures of singers on big platforms, crowds of people cheering them on. I glanced at the paintings of skyscraper buildings and charcoal - colored houses. "I wonder what it must have been like," I found myself whispering. "to live in this kind of world."

"Must have been beautiful." Dylan was looking at the posters now too.

"Its almost intoxicating," I was staring at a photograph of a japanese town square. The cherry blossom trees gave off a beautiful pink feel to the scene. "Everything is so well detailed and well, pretty."
