"It's gonna be a hot one, folks" the newscaster said as she clicked off the television. She dropped the remote on her nightstand and stretched out on the king-size bed. She loved the way the soft duvet felt the contrast between the white bedding, and chocolate color of the furniture. She stretched her body as she stood up and wiggled her toes in the soft, plush carpet pulling the crisp white sheets up to make the bed. She tossed the brightly colored pillows on the bed, and then stood back to admire the splash of color.
She stood there for a moment listening. She didn't hear sounds of her twin three-year-old sons, Timmy and Tyler yet. She knew she only had a few minutes to get dressed before they woke up; they were early risers. She walked into the spacious bathroom grabbed a towel from the basket, and washed her face. She hated the feeling of grime in her eyes that sleep brought. She pulled her straight blonde hair back in a high ponytail, and then put on her pink sports bra and color coordinated exercise clothes. As she pulled on her socks and sneakers, she heard a thud. She knew it was one of the boys climbing out of bed.
She hurried out of her room, and saw her angelic, blond, curly-haired son, Timmy, walking around the toy room; still in a sleep-induced haze. Timmy was holding his blankie close to his face with his eyes closed and sucking his thumb. Timmy opened his eyes and smiled."Momma!" He said.
Timmy ran to her and wrapped his arms around her. "Up!"
She picked Timmy up and wrapped her arms around him in a big bear hug. "Hi, Momma. Breakfast?"
"Sure, sweetheart. I need to get your brother, can you wait right here for me?"
"Yes, Momma. I wait here." Timmy dropped to the floor, stuck his thumb back in his mouth, and started sucking on it again.
She walked into the bedroom her boys shared to wake Tyler. When she looked down on him, she smiled. He was such a handsome boy. He was wearing his favorite Batman pajamas and his straight blonde hair was messed up from sleep; it was long and styled in a traditional bowl cut. He was laying on his stomach, with his legs tucked underneath his body, his arms straight along his sides, and his bottom sticking up in the air. Grinning at how cute and peaceful Tyler looked, she started to gently rub his back to wake him."Sweetheart, good morning! Wake up, Tyler!" Liz said in a gentle singsong voice.
Tyler rolled over, rubbed and then blinked his sky-blue eyes. As he looked up at his mom, he smiled. "Momma! Yeah! Love you, Momma."
She smiled. "Good morning, Tyler. I love you too, sweetheart. Let's go get breakfast, ok? Timmy is waiting.""Ok." Tyler climbed out of bed, wrapped arms around her legs and gave them a gentle squeeze, then ran off to the restroom. "I be down after peepee, Momma."
"Ok Tyler. Timmy, let's go, sweetheart." She reached her hand out, and Timmy stood up and grabbed her hand. Together they walked down the stairs, and into the kitchen.
Grabbing a mug, she chose a coffee pod for her Keurig, and started making a cup of coffee for herself. "Ok, boys, let's get our breakfast. Timmy, can you pull out the cereal? Tyler, can you get the milk? I'll get the bowl and spoons."
She poured the cereal and milk into bowls for Timmy and Tyler, and they sat down to start eating their cereal. "Boys, who would like a banana, and orange juice?""I want 'Nana and juice" the boys said in unison. Then, they started poking each other, and laughing and giggling, and cutting up at the table. She watched the boys act silly, and was pleased that they enjoyed each other so much.
"Boys, when you finish your cereal, what should you do with it?"
"Put it by sink!" Timmy and Tyler said together.
"Yup. After that, can you go get dressed so we can walk to the park and play?"
"Yes Momma! We go play at the park! Whoohoo!"
