You stepped off of the ferry and inhaled the cool morning air. So, this was Griffin Rock.
You were a newly recruited cop and had been assigned to Griffin Rock. Well, apparently everything here was under control, but they wanted a younger officer to check in on the island. So here you were, fresh out of the academy.
Stacked on top of your suitcase was a birdcage. Looking at the thin crowd you were able to spot the man you were looking for. Charlie Burns. The police chief of Griffin Rock.
You walked towards him and his expression brightened as he caught sight of you. "Ah, you must be (Y/N) (L/N)." He held out his hand and you took it.
"And you are Chief Burns. Correct?" You smiled warmly.
"Correct. It's nice to meet you (Y/N)." You nodded and stepped back. "I'll give you a ride to the place you'll be staying." He smiled.
"Thank you." You replied politely.
"Need any help with that?" He gestured to your luggage.
"Oh! No thank you! I got it." You said. Chief Burns nodded and motioned for you to follow him. After a bit of walking, you reached a squad car that was parked neatly on the side of the road. The Chief opened the trunk and you lifted your luggage into it. Your bird, Sunray, tweeted and danced around on his perch. You closed the trunk and walked up to the front of the car. Opening the door, you stepped in and sat down. Immediately your eyes moved to the screen. A robot's head was visible on it.
Chief Burns stepped into the car and glanced at the screen. "Yeah, that's the police bot for Griffin Rock. Surely you've heard of hi- It." He quickly corrected himself.
"Are you kidding? I've heard of them all! I can't wait to see them up close! Griffin Rock's technology is-" You cleared your throat, realizing that you had been rambling. "Sorry, I can get a little excited."
"That's quite alright." Chief Burns chuckled and started up the engine. You drove away in the Rescue Bot, feeling giddy. The car slowed to a stop as the light turned red. Fortunately, it flickered green in a few seconds, but before Chief Burns could step on the gas pedal a speeding car ran through a red light.
"Permission to pursue?" You jumped as the police bot spoke. Its voice sounded overly robotic.
"Permission granted," Chief Burns replied. The police bot sped forward after the car, it's sirens wailing. It didn't take long for the man inside of the vehicle to pull over.
"Er... Sir, maybe I could do this one?" You offered.
"Of course." Chief Burns smiled. You exited the car and walked up to the man.
"Sir, are you aware of how fast you were speeding?" You asked the man inside the vehicle.
"Uh... I-..." He seemed surprised by your appearance.
"You blew through a red light as well." You cleared your throat. "May I see your driver's license?"
The man quickly fished his wallet out of his pocket. He opened it and handed you his license. You skimmed over it before handing it back. You wrote a ticket and held it out to him. He took it and sighed heavily. "Thank you, sir." You dismissed him. He drove off, moving at a cautious pace and you walked back to the squad car, hoping you had done well. "How'd I do?"
"You handled that well." Chief Burns smiled as you sat down. The two of you drove off. After a few minutes of comfortable silence, you arrived at a small house. It didn't look brand new, but it certainly wasn't old. The grass looked evenly mowed as you stepped out.
"I can't believe I spent such a little price for this place. It's so much better than an apartment!" Your (E/C) eyes were wide as you studied the cozy building.
Chief Burns chuckled and opened up the trunk. He lifted your luggage out and set it gently on the ground. "I'm glad you think so." He straightened up and looked around. "I was hoping you could meet the rest of the team today..."
"Why don't you pick me up around noon? I don't have much luggage to unpack..." You suggested. Chief nodded. "Do I need to change into something else?" You looked down at the uniform you had on.
"What you're wearing is fine," Chief Burns assured. "Do you need anything else?"
"No. I think I'll be good from here." You smiled and picked up your luggage. Chief Burns smiled and waved a quick goodbye before getting into his vehicle and driving away. You inhaled and turned to face your new home. You walked determinedly toward it and opened the door.
The front door led to a kitchenette that was equipped with a stove and a refrigerator resting against the wall. A sink sat there as well. In the middle of the room was a wooden table with two rickety chairs. You slid off your shoes and walked through the open walkway that led to a small living room. A ratty old couch sat in the middle of the room and a painting of gleaming stars hung on the blank wall.
Other than those two things, the room was empty. You walked up to a door and opened it up. A small bathroom was revealed. You opened the last door and looked around the bare room. An ancient mirror attached to the wall hung next to an oakwood dresser. You had to go furniture shopping... You walked up to the mirror and studied yourself. You were wearing a blue police uniform, similar to the one Chief Burns wore.
Sighing you walked back to the kitchen, your socked feet moving soundlessly across the wood floor. You picked up Sunray's birdcage and set it on the table. Sunray, Ray for short, was a yellow canary who you had taken from your brother when he decided to give the small bird up.
Ray chirped cheerfully and you smiled. Time to unpack.
I know absolutely nothing about law enforcement, so the way the reader handles speeders and robberies may be false or just cheesy in general. Sorry about that. Tell me what you think of this first chapter. I don't own the cover art. Transformers: Rescue Bots is also not owned by myself. All credit goes to its creators.
