Chief Burns was... Upset. That was a light way of putting it.
He had separated Heatwave and Chase from the three hostile men almost immediately, glancing at you and Dani in pure disappointment. Your cheeks flushed and your eyes locked onto your shoes as you shamefully wrapped your arms around your body. Dani seemed a bit guilty but nowhere close to how you were feeling.
Chase's expression nearly brought a small smile out of you. You bit your lip and sucked the grin away, adding more guilt to the monstrous pile. You could barely explain it. He was horrified.
His usually calm eyes were wide and he gaped at Chief Burns. Despite the fact that Chief Burns was there, the three men had said something to really prod at Heatwave. He attempted to charge forward, only to be stopped by Chief. The men managed to slip their way through the thinning crowd, escaping the nightclub.
"Heatwave. I know I don't need to put you in handcuffs, but if you chase after them..." Chief Burns murmured to him.
"I'll get them!" You attempted to move, only to be stopped by Boulder who easily pulled you back.
"You have no equipment to deal with them if you reach them." He said. Chase's eyes darted to you and Boulder for half a second before he looked attentively back to Chief Burns.
"Because I know you all wouldn't hurt anybody without real reason..." Chief Burns huffed. "Heatwave. Chase. Dani, Kade, Graham. You too, after Heatwave and Chase. You both will talk to me when we return to the firehouse."
Heatwave snarled in outrage, clenching his fists. "(Y/N) was part of this too!"
Chief Burns rubbed his face. "She didn't punch anybody... But yes. You too (Y/N)."
You sent a glare at Heatwave, who returned the expression immediately. Graham blinked blearily at the floor, holding his broken glasses. Chase was shaking, his whole body frozen in place. Everything was a mess.
~o00o~
You sat inside of the firehouse's kitchen, your eyes tracing the table. Heatwave and Chase were downstairs with Chief Burns while Blades and Boulder sat outside, their optic's light cutting through any of the darkness that wasn't illuminated by the firehouse's lights.
There were muffled voices from downstairs, sometimes raising enough so you could hear Chief Burns. You winced and looked to Dani who seemed to really be regretting her decision. Kade was swaying slightly, leaning back against the wall.
A door creaked open and there were soft footsteps emitting from the hallway as Cody peeked around the corner, his eyes blurry with sleep. "Guys? What's going on?"
"Nothing. Go bad to bed Cody." Dani replied with ease. Cody stubbornly ignored her, moving into the kitchen before hiking himself up onto the counter, swinging his legs slightly.
Eventually, Chief Burns came up, quietly ordering Dani, Graham and Kade downstairs. Cody and you sat alone in the kitchen.
"So, what happened?" He asked, running a hand through his bedraggled hair.
You sighed heavily. "Heatwave got into a fight with some idiots. Your dad found out and has decided to give everyone a lecture." You snorted softly.
Cody grinned faintly. "Lucky you~"
"I suggest you head back to bed unless you want to be yelled at too."
He shrugged. "I can take it."
"Well... I'm gonna go talk to Chase. Or at least attempt to. I don't think he'll want to even look at me after Chief Burns scolded him."
"Mm. You can try."
You managed to sneak outside, your eyes landing on the patrol car that was Chase. He was sitting silently in the driveway while Heatwave spoke to Boulder and Blades. You made your way over to him, leaning against his hood. You knocked gently on his windshield.
"Heya."
He didn't answer, seeming as lifeless as any other normal car. "Chase." You tapped him again.
He continued to sulk. You sighed heavily and slipped off your uncomfortable shoes, climbing your way up on top of him, resting against his sirens. "I'm sorry. I've just gotten you in trouble these past few weeks. I really don't know if... If I deserve to work with you guys. You're aliens from space for Christ's sake! You should be working with the government, not some ordinary cop like me." You snorted.
"We work on Griffin Island for a reason." You jumped at Chase's voice. "We're too weak and well, young to be fighting the real threat to Earth. All we can do is make sure to keep the humans on this island safe."
You looked up at the sky which was filled with gleaming stars. Just like that night, you spent at the beach with Chase.
"And you're not ordinary. You're wonderful in every way. You are loyal to your job. You are kind and beautiful..." Chase became silent as he realized how he was speaking.
Your cheeks were pink and you were thankful for the dark blanket that concealed your blush. "Thank you, Chase... I've always... Seen you as different from the other Bots. N-not in a bad way! I mean- I really just-" You stumbled over your words, the light blush dusting your face soon becoming a bright fire.
"You...?"
"I-"
"(Y/N). Dad wants ya." Dani called, leaning against the wall.
You jumped, the excited feeling in your gut disappearing, replaced with dull disappointment and anxiety. "O-oh-.."
As you slipped off of Chase, he seemed to sag with disappointment. "I'll see you later, then?"
"Affirmative."
"(Y/N)!"
You turned and began walking away to what felt like your utter doom.
