You glanced at the dresser, feeling accomplished. All your clothes had been stored away inside. It was almost noon, and you felt ready to meet the rest of the team. Ray's cage now sat on the dresser as well and he tweeted, flapping his small yellow wings. You inhaled and jumped as the bell rang. Huh, that was a nice little tune, you noted. You walked into the kitchen, slipped on your shoes and grabbed your coat before opening the door.
Chief Burns stood before you, stepping away from the door as he saw you. "Hello (Y\N)." He greeted.
"Hello, Chief." You smiled.
"Well, I finally convinced the others to wake up," He said.
"I didn't mean to make my stay inconvenient for you." You apologized quickly.
"No! The team is normally that way. Nothing to worry about." He reassured you. You nodded and closed the door behind you."Let's get going then." He gestured to his squad car and you followed him to it. You opened the passenger door and stepped inside of the car. Chief sat down in the driver's seat and closed the door. He pulled on his seatbelt and pulled out of the driveway. You looked out the window, studying the houses as you drove by. "So... What city are you from?" The chief asked, trying to make small talk.
"I grew up in in the town Kittery." You stated, turning back to look at him. He nodded.
"I noticed you had a bird."
"Mhm, his name's Ray. My brother had to move to an apartment and unfortunately, they didn't accept pets." You said. Chief Burns pulled into a driveway, nodding. You stepped out of the car and immediately noticed the three Rescue Bots standing in front of a firehouse. You stared up at them, trying not to squeal with excitement. You had to stay professional. Four humans stood in front of the Bots.
"Police-Bot, Transform." You heard Chief Burns say before he walked over to your side. "Well team, meet (Y/N)."
"Hi! I'm Dani. Nice to finally have another girl on the team."
"Hey! I'm Cody."
"Hi, I'm Graham. Nice to meet you."
"The name's Kade."
You were touched by how quickly the team had warmed up to you. Or, at least you thought that was the case... You shook everyone's hand. You were probably grinning like a doofus. "It's nice to meet you all!"
"Please, come in." The Chief insisted.
"I'm making lunch!" Dani announced excitedly. The rest of the Burns family winced. You looked back at Dani. Surely her cooking couldn't be that bad.
~o00o~Her cooking was terrible. Luckily, you had experience with this, considering your brother had always wanted to cook. You chewed the meatloaf and dug your nails into your palm. Fortunately, it worked. You swallowed and bit your tongue. "Well? Do you like it?" Dani asked.
"It's delicious!" You smiled, before taking a sip of water, trying to get rid of the burnt aftertaste in your mouth.
"See, (Y/N) likes my cooking." Dani glared at her family, hands on her hips. The rest of the Burns family stared at you in awe. You shivered. Just then, you heard voices coming from the floor beneath you. You strained your ears.
"Is anyone else hearing that?" You asked, looking around the table.
"Uh, I'll go checks on the robots!" Cody jumped up and ran toward the fire pole that led downstairs. He slid down it. Huh... that was weird. Or, more likely, Cody just didn't want anything to do with Dani's cooking.
"I'll go too!" Kade yelled. He stood up and disappeared down the fire pole after Cody.
"I, um, have some homework I need to do." Graham scooted his chair away from the table and stood up, walking quickly to his room. And then there were three. Dani rolled her eyes and picked up the plates who's owner's has disappeared. You took another bite of the meatloaf and felt your eyes water. Chief Burns thankfully took pity on you.
"I'll show (Y/N) around town. Maybe she can meet Barney." He suggested.
"Oh, all right." Dani huffed. She picked up your plates and took them to the sink.
"Thanks, Dani." You stood up. She smiled and nodded her head.
"Well, let's go." Chief Burns stood up.You were at least making progress.
