A few days later, you were standing in front of your mirror, trying to decide what'll wear. Once again, you had been invited to the firehouse for lunch. Apparently, Chief's brother, Woodrow, was paying the Burns family a visit. Chief Burns wanted you to meet him, and you would gladly meet another member of the Burns family. You just hoped Dani wasn't cooking.
You finally decided to wear your uniform. Who knew when there could be an emergency? You ran a comb through your damp (H/C) hair. As you finished getting ready, the doorbell rang. You slipped on your shoes, grabbed your coat and stepped out the door.
Instead of Chief Burns, who you were expecting, Kade stood there. "Alright, ready to go?"
"Oh! Kade..."
"Yeah, it's me. Sorry to disappoint you." Kade huffed. He turned around and walked back to his fire truck which was parked on the side of the road near your house. "The chief was busy."
"The chief?" You snorted. You had expected something less formal from Kade. Like, dad, or something along those lines.
"Well, that's what you call him." Kade started up the engine and began driving. You shrugged and glanced out the window after putting on your seatbelt. "Hey, can ya hand that to me?" Kade gestured to a thin white box on the dashboard. The fire truck's engine nearly seemed to groan as you handed what appeared to be a donut box, to Kade. He took his hands off the steering wheel for a moment to open the box and take a donut out. He gave the box back to you without a second thought. You rolled your eyes and put the box back on the dashboard.
Kade drove with one hand while he ate his selected donut with the other. You raised a brow in surprise. "You're going to have to clean up all the sprinkles in here..."
"Pfft. I dun have to clean anythin." Kade said with a full mouth.
"Do you want everything to be sticky and messy?"
"I honestly don't care."
"That's disgusting."
"Hey! My truck, my rules!" Kade snapped. Just then, the fire truck came to a sharp stop. Kade yelped as he flew forward. Luckily, you were wearing a seatbelt. It almost seemed to have tightened around you. Kade groaned in pain and rubbed the bridge of his nose. It didn't look broken, but Kade had obviously hit it on the steering wheel pretty hard.
"Kade are you o-" Kade interrupted you.
"I'm fine (Y/N)!" He growled. "Somebody's going to have a talk with me though..." Kade muttered under his breath. You chose to ignore that last part.
Eventually, you reached the firehouse. Kade stepped out of the fire truck and immediately kicked the tire. That only resulted in hurting his foot. You got out and patted the fire truck. "What'd it do to you?" You snorted. Kade grumbled something you didn't quite catch before stepping into a platform. You joined him and the platform raised up. You entered the kitchen and glanced around.
Chief Burns, fortunately, was cooking. It smelled delicious. The rest of the Burns household was sitting at the table, chatting. Immediately as you walked in, a man who you assumed was Woodrow, stood up. He held out his hand and you shook it. "You must be (Y/N)! I've heard a lot of good things about you. You can call me Woodrow. There's no need for formalities."
You smiled. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Have a seat (Y/N)." Chief Burns offered. You sat down on the seat in between Cody and Dani. Cody began excitedly telling you about a project he was doing at school. You offered him suggestions and listened until Chief Burns set the food out. Everyone began piling food onto their plate.
