What is wrong with sexual sin?
That question seems so foolish and obvious to me. Yet, I find myself asking it constantly.
Now, I've never had sex before but I've struggled with sexual sins and lustful mindsets.
And even if you're having pre-marital sex, this one is for you too.
This is a very uncomfortable topic and writing it is very hard for me. But for my testimony to be complete and for God's will to be done , it has to be mentioned.
In the Nigerian community, we call every older woman "Aunty."
One day in youth service, one of the aunties speaking to us has explained that sexual sins will separate you from God.
Although she was speaking about intercourse, I've come to realize that applies to any sexual act. But at the moment, I only applied it to sex.
Masturbation? Separates you from God.
Porn? Separates you from God.
Oral sex? Separates you from God.
1 Corinthians 6:19 says, "You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit that you received from God and that lives in you. You don't own yourselves."
So why did I feel the need to fill my body with such evil?
Why do you feel the need to fill your body with such evil?
We cry for the Holy Spirit to take over our mind and body yet we don't make our body an environment for Him to reside.
Why do we do that?
Because it feels good. Because we enjoy our sin. We don't want to let go of that instant but temporary pleasure.
But it's only temporary. And God's kingdom is forever.
Like I said earlier, sexual sin separates you from God. Thinking back to it now, no wonder my faith ended up the way it is now.
I had filled my body with such nasty, disgusting evils and didn't realize I was separating myself from God, the same Person I was trying to get closer to.
Then I would go and pray to get closer to Him. Not realizing He is close to me. I just needed to take off my veil of sin and see Him.
If you're reading this and going through the same, remember His word. Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, you can't fill it with evil.
Yes it takes time, but do not give up.
So anytime you feel like having sex with your significant other, watching porn, or even sending dirty photos, remember who you are. Say it out loud "My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit," and repeat it everyday until you believe it.
But just like everything in life, it's a process. Lean on God, you cannot do it by yourself. Only God can help you overcome this battle.
