I search frantically around for them.

I can't see them
I turn away from the other kids so that they don't see my tears. So that they don't see my fear, they can't see that I'm afraid, or else they'll start freaking out even more. No. Get your head together Lance! They believed in you! So I just have to try harder now!
I wipe my eyes on my sleeve and look back at the rest of my kids, I'll never take my eyes off of them again. They're all looking at me, expecting me to know what to do next. But I don't. Maybe my pare- NO! I shake my head and try and keep away my tears at the thought of them. I have to learn to do things without the help of my parents. I'm 17! Almost 18! I was supposed to go to college in a couple months! I have to get my head together! I have to keep them safe! I have to save the kids, their lives are more important than mine. Save the kids first, I cannot let them die on my watch, even if that means I'll die.
