Ben.
Ben is my best friend. The person I depend on. The person that inspires me.
I imagine I do the same for him.
What happened last night is something that will be engraved into my brain and scarred onto my skull forever.
The death of the most important person in my life. My mother.
But Ben promised he'd help take the pain away from me. He offered to relieve the burning fire in my heart, the fueled tears aching in my eyes. In no other way has anyone ever been so dependable before. Ben is the love of my life.
"Do you like it?" He questioned, a navy blanket being placed on the grass underneath a large oak tree. The moon was shining down brighter than I had ever seen it shine before. The stars glimmered and sparkled.
"It's beautiful," I spoke in awe. A soft breeze nipped at my skin as my jet-black hair whipped behind me. The thought of Ben's kindness brought tears to my eyes.
"Grace..." Ben's voice trailed off. "Look at me," I looked at him. "Don't cry."
"You don't know how much this means to me. How much you mean to me," I whispered. Hot, salty tears flowed from my eyes as Ben placed his thumbs on my cheeks to catch them.
"Listen," he murmured. "You are the most amazing person I've ever met in my entire life."
We sat in solitude for a few moments. My soft sniffs were audible, but as the tears dried to my face, I became vulnerable in front of him.
"Ben..."
"Yes, sweetie?"
"I miss her," I sobbed. Ben didn't respond, but rather wrapped his arms around me in a tight embrace as we looked at the stars together. I didn't need a response – Ben's love was comforting enough. I moved my head to look behind me in hopes of catching a glimpse of his gorgeous self. As I did so, his lips neared my face as they planted a kiss on my cheek.
"God, how did I get so lucky to have you?" Ben whispered in my ear. I smiled a sad smile, remembering that even though my mum was gone, I still had this breathtaking view in front of me, and my remarkable best friend behind me. There wasn't much to be thankful for at this moment in my life, but one thing I was thankful for was him.
"Grace?"
"Yeah?"
"I love you so, so much."
"I love you too. More than you can imagine."
