“Kylie, wake up! You’re late!” my mom shook me awake the next day. I opened my eyes; it was so bright in my room, I must be really late! I shot up and jumped out of my bed, throwing on a pair of sweats and a t-shirt. I threw my hair up and my books in my backpack. “Thanks! Bye love you!” I yelled back as she watched with awe at how fast I got out of there. I couldn’t find my keys and once I did I kept dropping them trying to hurry! “Gah!” I yelled.

When I got to school eventually I hurried into the office and got a slip so Mr. Jones wouldn’t nag me; second day at a new school and I was already late, fantastic. I open the door slowly; of course like I figured everyone stared at me, just like yesterday. This time Matt did look up and when I saw his face my mouth fell open. “Kylie? Why are you late?” Mr. Jones asked. I looked at him; “I slept late, I’m sorry sir.” I said. I gave him the note and sat down next to Matt. “Matt, what happened?” I asked seriously concerned. He just looked at me and shrugged then went back to his work. “Matt, are you okay?” I persisted. He nodded and kept working. I sighed; I got my essay done yesterday expecting to talk to Matt the whole time. So I just sat there; every once in a while I could see him glance at me but nothing more. The bell rang and he still didn’t say a word to me. What if he got in trouble for leaving last night and he got hit by his dad. What if I made that happen? His mood put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day; at lunch I sat in silence waiting for Matt to walk in so I could talk to him but he never came.

He wasn’t in my other classes either and that made me worry; a lot. The day went by slow and since it was Friday I went out with Haile. That was pointless I totally got pushed out of the conversation which annoyed me. Don’t invite someone out and then not pay attention to them. I kept checking my phone but no one called or texted me. “Kylie, we’re leaving are you going to come to the mall with us?” I shook my head quickly knowing I couldn’t take much more of this. I got up and drove home. On the way home I wasn’t focusing on the drive and almost got hit at a red light, I screamed when the car coming at me swerved and missed me by a little. I didn’t have time to sit there and recoup so I kept driving; I was shaking so hard and breathing hard too. “Pay attention Ky, focus!” I said to myself. I didn’t want to go home but I had nowhere else to go, I didn’t want to go to the park and I didn’t know anywhere else to hangout where it was quiet. I eventually ended up going home and sleeping more; ever since Lewis died I have been really tired all the time. I have no motivation to do anything what-so-ever.

“Kylie, wake up!” I seemed to be hearing that a lot lately and I was getting sick of it. Can’t people just let me sleep? I pretended not to hear her and kept “sleeping.” But it did nothing, I heard Mackenzie keep persisting at me to get up. I opened my eyes slowly and saw her face right in front of mine. I jumped and kind of yelped. “What are you doing?” I asked. “Can we go get coffee or something? I don’t want to be in the house and I want something like coffee.” She said. I thought about it for a second, it sounded good and my mom just paid me a little bit of my money back so I could get us both drinks. “Sure, give me a second though.” I told her. I had only been sleeping for a few hours and I was drowsy. “Oh, by the way, a really cute guy came over and asked for you. I told him you were sleeping and he gave me his number to give to you. He said to call him when I told you.” I opened my eyes wide, “Why didn’t you wake me up?!” I exclaimed. She pulled back and looked at me like she was surprised I yelled at her. “Sorry, where is his number?” I asked after she didn’t answer. “In my room on my dresser.” She replied, “I’ll be waiting in the car.” I went to her room and grabbed the paper then programmed it into my phone so I could call him later; but for now I had to take my little sister for some coffee.

                                                                Matts POV

“Man, I almost blew it and when I stopped by to ask her to hang out her little sister told me she was sleeping, do you think she told her to tell me that?” I asked my best friend Ben. He shook his head at me. “Nah, she’s in my last hour class and she looked pretty tired.” I hadn’t gone to the rest of my classes because I just didn’t feel like it. About twelve people alone asked me what happened to my face in the first half hour of class. Then when Kylie walked in and asked me what happened I knew I couldn’t survive the rest of the day. I felt bad that I just ignored her and left her wondering but I might have broken down in front of her and that wouldn’t be good; she has already seen enough of my soft side. “Oh, well do you think she’ll call?” I asked him. Ben has been my best friend since the third grade when I just moved here; at first he bullied me but once I fought back he gained respect and we became friends. We did everything from birthday parties and sleepovers. No one could separate us and they didn’t try. When I told him about my dad he just sat there with me while I cried and he never laughed about it. He was like a brother to me and I loved it; having someone there I mean just to be you.

“I think she will; she looks like she digs you.” He said after a second. I laughed; “She digs me?” he laughed too and nodded. “Yeah, she looks at you like you’re a God.”  “Like I’m a God?” I asked. He nodded. “But you’ve never seen us together.” I said after a moment of thinking. He replied after a second thinking back. “I saw you guys walking outside that first day she was here. She just, stared.” I laughed. “Well then.” “You guys would be cute together.” He said. I just laughed. We talked about stuff like that for a little while longer and then we changed topics to regular guy stuff like cars, girls, and sports.

“Hey bro, want to go get some food at McDonald's or something?” I asked. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I had nothing else to think about. He nodded and jumped of the back of my car and walked around to the front, I did the same. After a second we were in the car and speeding down the highway toward McDonald's. My soccer coach didn’t like it when I ate fast food but I liked it in a weird way and he ate fast food all the time, so he can just get off my back. “Bro, is that Kylie?” Ben half yelled as he pointed right in front of his face. My eyes darted everywhere trying to see where he was pointing and my stomach was turning from excitement, butterflies if you will. “Where?” I insisted. Then I heard him laughing and holding his stomach. “I was kidding, dude. Do you really think she’d be out right now?” he asked. I glared at him from my spot in the driver’s seat. Sometimes that kid got on my nerves. Now I looked like an idiot because I was so “excited” to see Kylie. I sighed. Oh well. I thought.
