"My dear Amelia!" I heard behind me as I was taking the saddle of Louise.
A huge grin took over my face as I turned around and saw her petite figure in front of me. She was smiling at me and I couldn't help myself as I ran to her, and engulfed her in a hug.
At that moment, in my granny's arms, I felt so overwhelmed and could not stop my tears from flowing out of my eyes. I felt my body shake as I continued to hold on to her.
"Oh my sweet lily." She cooed. "Don't cry." She rubbed my back in an attempt to calm me down but that only made me want to cry more.
"I missed you so much." I croaked.
"It's only been a month since I last saw you, my child." She mused and pushed me off her. "How about we go back to the house and talk over a cup of tea?"
I smiled a bit and dried the tears that were on my face with the back of my hand.
"And don't worry. I know you don't like tea so for you, I'll make some coco." She smiled and grabbed my hand. "Come on now. It looks like it's going to rain soon."
...
"You didn't tell me you were coming, Lily." I smiled at my granny as she called me Lily. Only she ever called me that and only she was allowed to.
"I missed you." I took a sip of my coco and sighed.
"Our with it, my dear." She put her cup of tea to the side and leaned back into her seat on the sofa. "You and I both know that's not the reason you're here. You can't lie to me, Lily."
"I want out." I whispered and averted my gaze to my lap. "I can't take it anymore."
"Out of what, Amelia?" Now granny was serious. "What can't you take anymore?"
"My life, granny." I sighed and looked at her. "I feel so trapped. I'm always being told to do things that'll please others. I've never done anything that'll please me. Anything that makes me happy. Frankly, I don't think I've ever done anything for me."
Granny's expression was filled with understanding mixed with empathy. Like she knew how I felt. Then again, granny was the only one who got me.
"All my life it was 'Amelia do this' or 'Amelia do that'. Mother and father did an excellent job at training me for this world that they forgot the nurturing and loving part of being parents. However, they realized this mistake with Leo and Elena and raised them with the love and nurture that they should've raised me with." I fumbled with the end of my sweater. "I didn't realize this until it was late. A part of me thought that as I would get older, maybe they would cut down on all the expectations they put on me. But I was wrong." My voice cracked as I continued. I felt a sob rise. "I was so wrong. I thought I was finally going to get that love that my siblings got but instead, I got married. They married me off to a man I only met twice. They didn't even ask me if I liked him."
At this point I was crying again. I put my face into my hands and sobbed into them. I felt arms pull me into a warm hug as I continued to cry. Granny didn't say anything. She just continued to sooth me.
"And the worst part is that I went through it with the thought that maybe this will finally please them. That they'll finally love me like they do Leo and Elena." I sobbed. "And Christian. It was like he disregarded the wedding. I moved from France to England. To a place where I know no one and have no one. And For the past month of our marriage, one month into our marriage granny, not once did he bother to make sure I was alright. Or make sure I was adjusting well."
"Oh my dear." She cooed. "Don't cry."
"I know I shouldn't have ran but I couldn't take it anymore." I sniffled and pulled away from her. "I needed to leave."
"Did you let anyone know you're here?" She asked while rubbing my back. "Christian? Your mother and father?"
I shook my head. "I told Elena but I made her promise not to tell anyone. If they knew they'd make me go back, granny."
"They must be worried sick!" She sighed.
"Of course. Worried what the media will spin if they find out." I muttered.
"Amelia." Granny warned. "You need to let your parents and husband know you're here."
I pursed my lips and looked up to the window that showed the acres of land granny had. It had started to rain like granny had predicted.
"Sweetheart." She called. "We mustn't run from our problems. We must face them."
I shook my head. "I'm not going back. Ever." I had made up my mind. "And if you want to let them know I'm here be sure to tell them I won't be coming back. And if you don't want me to stay here, let me know and I will leave."
I heard her sigh. "Like hell I'd let my favourite grandchild run loose through Europe. Or the world for that matter."
I smiled leaning into granny for a hug. Granny always knew what I wanted to hear. That's why she was my person.
"We'll fix this, Lily." She whispered laying a kiss on my head.
"If something's been broken countless number of times, it's best you stop using it and dispose of it. There's no use fixing it." I sighed closing my eyes.
"Your parents are probably so worried right now."
"I'm not as optimistic." I huffed.
"They love you Amelia. So much." She whispered hugging me tighter. "Your husband, Christian, must be ballistic right now."
"Christian doesn't know me." I mumbled.
"He loves you my child." She whispered.
"Impossible."
