TODAY
Today we still have the Constitution for our government. It created federalism, where federal has more power than the states, and a representative democracy. Our Constitution has been amended 27 times. The first 10 amendments are called the Bill of Rights. As you can see, the federalists and anti-federalists both got their way.
Today our government is great. It isn't weak, but it isn't full of power. It gets its power from the people according to popular sovereignty. Our government has 3 branches, the legislative, the executive, and the judicial branch. Each branch has equal power because of checks and balances. If it weren't for the Enlightenment Thinkers and the Founding Fathers, our government wouldn't be the same today.
One thing that we have to remember though, is that the government belongs to 'we the people.'
