Hannah didn’t know where she was, but she was moving quickly. She didn’t know where she was going, either. She looked forward and saw Steve running ahead. They were headed in the same direction – towards a light. Suddenly, Steve made it to the light, flashed brightly, and disappeared once again. She passed through the light, and she saw the outline of brick walls before stumbling into an alleyway.
Hannah’s head ached, but she saw Steve sprint up to her and lick her face. She wandered outside into the town’s square and heard whines and complaints. She walked up to a group of people to hear what they were saying; “I can’t believe that they aren’t letting us settle in our new territory!” said one of the men.
“Yeah,” another chimed in, “we won that land in the French and Indian War!”
“Excuse me, sir,” Hannah asked, “what are you talking about?”
“HAVEN’T YOU HEARD OF THE PROCLAMATION?!?!” they shout in unison.
“Ohhh, yeah… that,” Hannah said, uncertain. She walks away, takes out a notepad and pencil and writes down the conversation she heard between the men. What time is it? Hannah thought. She lifted her wrist and looked at her watch which would tell the date and time. “4:53,” Hannah read aloud, then she looked down, “year 1763!” She shakily jotted it down on her notepad and mentally freaked out. What happened! How in the world did I get here? Is my watch wrong! She thought. To calm herself down, she went to the shop to buy some tea. Hannah and Steve walked into the nearest store.
As soon as she walked in, she heard more commotion about the Proclamation. “I can’t believe that our dang king made that law in the first place!” said one colonist.
“Well personally, I thought it was a good idea. We don’t have enough money to go to war again, and nobody would like to go to war anyways,” said a second.
“Britain lover!” the first colonist jeered.
“Humph!” scoffed the second colonist. Hannah lost her appetite for tea, wrote down more information, and turned around to exit the store. She walked out the door and ended up in the same disorienting transition as she had before. She started running in a different direction this time. She looked back and saw Steve standing there puzzled. Then he barked and jumped in after her.
