The next morning I woke up to more chaos. I was last up, apparently, and it seemed as if they'd all seen something new that I hadn't. What could have happened? I wondered.
"What is it? Did something bad happen?" I asked, throwing the covers aside and leaping from my bad.
"Yeah: Lisa's been murdered during the night!" Ciara replied. "Same method as with Sydney; her throat was slit. There was blood everywhere!"
"But this time there was something else: a bloody handprint on the farthest wall from the door," Ava added.
I caught Gwen's eye: now there was a second victim, and still, we couldn't do anything...
The day was basically a repeat of yesterday, an assembly then lessons. At dinner, it was so noisy I could easily chat to Gwen without anyone else hearing.
"It appears we have a serial murderer on our hands-"
"Incorrect," she interjected. "They're not a serial killer until they kill three people. Currently, their victim count is two."
"Either way, there must be a link between the victims, surely. One in the third form and one in the first. What could they possibly have in common?" I asked.
I was hoping that Gwen, being the smart person she is, would be able to work something out. But then Ava hooked us into the conversation at the table.
That had been our only chance...
And I'd wanted to ask her opinion on the handprint...
Which had been by the window.
