I pull into the parking lot of my old elementary school, Ragleaf Elementary. I quickly hop out of my car and enter the building.
As I walk down the halls of my old school, I slow down to look at some of the work that is put out in the hall. Kindergarten-fingerpainted caterpillars
First grade-little kids names sloppily but proudly written on a piece of paper
Second grade-papers of dream jobs they have
Third grade-sheets of multiplication and division tests are spread over the cork board
Fourth grade-reports on famous people fill up the wall
When I finally reach the office, I step in and lean over on the counter.
"Uh, Silvia?"
"He's in there," she pointed at the principals office, still looking down at her paperwork,"you won't believe what he did this time."
That didn't sound good.
I walked over to the principals door and gently pushed it open.
There sat a very bored looking Tyler, across from a very angry principal.
As soon as the principal saw me, he dismissed Tyler to go wait in the office.
I watched my brother go, then turned to look at principal Bethholm.
"Good evening miss Flakscoff," the he greeted me,"please take a seat."
I sank down into the small red chair Tyler had sat in.
"As you know, Tyler tends to make trouble-alot,"principal Bethholm stated,"we both know that, right?"
I swallowed and nodded very quickly.
"He seems to do it every chance he gets. But what he did today pushed it way to far," He continued.
"What did he do?" I asked him cautiously.
"Well, that is what led me to the point of this conversation, miss Flakscoff. What he did today was unacceptable, and I believe that there should be major consequences for it."
Ok, I know that principal Bethholm is really nice and all, but he was KILLING me with all the suspense. Lord knows how long he could make this conversation last.
Principal Bethholm took a deep breath.
"Tyler punched somebody in the nose on recess today.Multiple times."
I gasped."Multiple?"
"I'm afraid so," he stated.
I leaned back in my chair. How could Tyler do this? I mean sure, he's landed himself many detentions and repeated visits to the principal but those were all just bad behavior issues. I mean, this is much more serious than any of those things. Also, Tyler never touches anybody. Why was it now that he did?
"Thank you, for your time," I told him as I stood up to leave.
"There's, more," he told me cautiously as I sat back down.
"I've been thinking a lot about Tyler, and this hasn't been the first time we've seen kids act like this," he continued, wringing his hands nervously,"And I think it would do him well to send him to a military school."
My jaw dropped to the floor,"what?!"
Principal Bethholm handed me a pamphlet. It had a picture of a group of kids all lined up with their hand on their forehead and the other arm straight at their waist. Below the picture it said 'children not behaving? Send them here and they will come back good as new!'
Principal Bethholm went on to explain,"we have sent many troubled kids here, and I think that Tyler-"
I cut him off before he could finish," Principal Bethholm, Tyler is not troubled,"
"I understand that Cindy, but-"
"No, you don't understand, because if you did, you wouldn't suggest sending my little brother off to a military school for kids who steal cars and crash planes in the middle of Africa!" I stormed out of his office and into the main office,"c'mon Tyler, let's go home."
