The beauty of being 16 is that I don't have to take that dirty smelly bus anymore. That's basically the only good thing about being in high school. Everything else is downhill.
When I reach my silver jeep I stand before it and click the unlock button on my keys. As I hear the car make a beep, I pull on the front door and slip into the seat. I slide my key into the ignition and hear the engine rattle. I take that as my cue to start driving and back out of my parking spot.
As soon as I had turned 16, I had begged my dad to get me my license. It took two days, but he eventually agreed to take me. And when I had gotten home from the test, There was a shining silver jeep sitting in the garage. Ever since then I've been driving everywhere.
It's so nice to have the freedom to go wherever I want, whenever I want. And, I can finally date now! Now my crushes can be my boyfriends!
I slow down at a red light and stop. My family and I live pretty far away from school. That's one of the many reasons why riding the bus was a hassle. I was always the last stop. Sure, it gave me time to do homework, but when you run out of it, the ride is incredibly boring.
It takes about 20 minutes to get from school to my house. When I was in elementary school, it took 30. In intermediate school it took 30 also because it was about a mile away from elementary school. In middle school, it took 15 minutes. Those were the best years because middle school had been really close to our house. And here I am, in high school.
Our family never moves. This is because my parents don't want to put my siblings and I in a situation where we have to say goodbye to our good friends and start all over in a new house, school and neighborhood. But it wasn't always like that. Before my siblings and I were born, my parents moved around at least 20 times. Are family is scattered across the US, and my parents wanted to find a place that wasn't too far from all of the states our families are in. We settled on Kansas because it was near the middle of the US. Our house is reasonable size-big but welcoming, and the money we have is not poor, but not rich either. The reason why the schools are so far away is because my mom and dad don't like the education system where we live, so they chose Crimson schooling.(my parents are very picky on education)
When I finally reach my house I pull into the driveway and park in a corner of it. I then pull the keys out and grab my backpack from the backseat and drag it to the front door of the house. I cram the key into the lock and pop the door open. As soon as I open the door, Kaitlin scampers up to me, unable to contain her excitement.
"Hi Katy," I laugh as her tiny tail wags at 50 mph.
My school gets out earlier than my siblings schools do and my parents work all day, so when I get home it's just me and Kaitlin. My parents actually got Kaitlin when I started high school because of this. they wanted to know that I was safe and protected, and that I wouldn't be lonely when I got home. So far I've loved having a dog.
I step past Kaitlin and enter the laundry room where I hang my heavy backpack on the hook. Then I skip into the living room and click on the TV as I plop down on to the sofa. Soon after, Katy jumps on top of me.
As I'm watching my favorite show (E.T., which is based of the song by Katy Perry) I wonder what Savannah would be doing.
"Probably taking a bath in her jacuzzi," I mutter. Katy barks and wags her tail.
I smile,"Don't worry Katy- I wouldn't trade you for anything," I say, scratching her belly.
Even for the life of Savannah Gavry.
