Scouts-Many-Marshes couldn't believe his eyes. An Argonian. He had been purchased by an Argonian. Forges-Many-Blades chuckled. "Sorry for not telling you the truth earlier, but I didn't want the guards to get violent towards me." "It's fine," Scouts said in disbelief. Forges sifted through his wardrobe and pulled out a pair of clothes and shoes. "Take these," he said, handing the clothing to Scouts. "I don't like seeing you in those rags. You can change in the guest room on the bottom floor."
When Scouts-Many-Marshes went downstairs, he was just as amazed as he was upstairs. There was a blacksmith forge, an alchemy table, an enchanting table, and even some mannequins, one of which donned a set of red and black armor with a cowl on its head. Scouts found the guest room and quickly changed into the clothes Forges-Many-Blades had given him. He then proceeded to throw his rags in the forge's flames. The rags dissipated in the flames, reducing to nothing but ash.
When he came back upstairs, Forges had changed out of his Nightingale armor. Instead he donned a set of steel plate armor and an dark cowl on his head. In his hands was what appeared to be a strange mask. "Oh, hey," Forges-Many-Blades said when he noticed Scouts standing there. "It's much more comfortable in those, right?" Scouts-Many-Marshes, being to shy to respond, nodded. It actually was pretty comfortable, not to mention clean.
"I'm going out for a few days," Forges said as he grabbed a quiver of arrows and threw it on his back. "Jordis, you're in charge until I get back." "By your orders, my Thane." Scouts merely waved goodbye. Forges waved back before stepping out the door.

"So that's why he became the Thane of Solitude?"
"Aye. I couldn't believe it either."
Scouts-Many-Marshes had managed to start a conversation with Jordis the Sword-Maiden shortly after Forges had left. Despite her strong tone and build, the housecarl was surprisingly gentle and patient. The residents Windhelm were never like this with him.Scouts-Many-Marshes looked out the window. "How long do you think he'll be gone?" Jordis shrugged. "Either when his pockets are full or General Tullius doesn't have anymore orders to give out." "What do you mean by that?" "You didn't know," Jordis exclaimed in surprise,"That my Thane hates slavery?" Scouts shook his head. "Not even that he was in the Imperial army?" He shook his head again. "Well," the Sword-Maiden began,"That's why he decided to side with the Empire. With the Stormcloak gone, the Empire can abolish slavery throughout all of Tamriel."
Scouts-Many-Marshes tried to respond but couldn't find the right words. Forges-Many-Blades went through all that trouble just to free him from the Stormcloak's iron fist. He faked his identity, hid his face and quite possibly broke several laws just to save a complete stranger. Scouts stood up. "I need a moment alone." And without another word he climbed the stairs to Forges bedroom. He locked the door behind him and sat down on the floor.
We just met, Scouts thought to himself, So why do I already miss him?
