I promised him nothing

I went out to my car and started it. I put on some "Hollywood Undead", my favorite band. I pulled out of my driveway and floored it down the street. I decided not to change because I didn't have time. I went straight to the hospital. I got there just in time. I ran right in and my doctor was just about to call for me. He took me back and checked my ribs and said they were perfect and my knees were not swollen anymore. I was clear to drive. I walked out feeling so excited because now I can compete again. I got in my car and drove off. That's when the unexpected happened. I was turning a corner and out of nowhere a tractor-trailer ran a red light and ran into me. My life flashed before my eyes. I saw when I died,  who I was with and I couldn't remember who she was, my parents, my gravestone, Lady of Spirit, Lord of the Spirit, when I was on my mission, meeting Parker, and us kissing. Then everything went black.

I woke up after what felt like days. I slowly opened my eyes. Everything was blurry. I could just barely make out where I was laying. I saw what I think was a chair in the corner. There was someone sitting in it. A guy. Someone was talking to him. It looked like a nurse. That's when everything came back to me. I was in a hospital because of the car accident. I still couldn't make out who the man was. Just then another man walked in. He came up to me. He looked at me concerned.

      "How are you feeling, Saraya?"

      "Ok, but everything is blurry."

"It should be blurry, you took a pretty hard hit from what I heard."

"My vision is so blurry, I can only see the outline of your body, who are you?"

"It's me, Parker." He laughed. "I told you to stay safe."

"And I believe I told you no promises."

"You did, well get some rest." He walked over to the other man and the nurse. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep. I had a weird dream. I was Ari again. I was on an amusement park ride. I was next to a girl. The ride went hay-wire. People were screaming. Everything went black. Suddenly everything came back to me. I was floating in the air. I was staring at the broken ride. A cable was whipping around. I saw a girl, she had no head. It was on the ground. There was blood everywhere. That's when I realized. I was seeing everything that happened the day I died. I screamed.

Then I was jolted awake. I could see clearly now. Parker was standing over me, a nurse, and Michael was there. "Saraya, are you alright?" Parker questioned.

"Yea, bad dream. Why? What happened?"

"You started screaming out of nowhere."

"Oh, I was having a nightmare, I think."

"Ok. Well relax, the doctor says you can go home in 10 minutes, he said you're ok and that you're lucky. We have to get you in this wheelchair and I'll take you home." They all helped me into the wheelchair. Michael and Parker wheeled me to Parker's car. They helped me into the back seat, they said I'd have more room back there. When I finally managed to get in the car, Parker started driving and Michael left because he had to be somewhere for NASCAR. Parker took me home and laid me in his bed. He laid down next to me. He put the TV on. I had so many questions to ask and so many things that I needed to say. "Are you comfortable?"

"Yea, but I have so many questions that I need to ask."

     "Go ahead."

"How did I get to the hospital?"

"Someone who saw your crash brought you in. Your car was taken to the stadium and Talia is going to fix it for you."

     "Why was  Michael there?"

"He was the person you texted most recently."

"Why did they let me leave so early?"

"You don't have any broken bones, you have a slight concussion, and you are going to be a little sore. Nothing too serious."

      "Oh."

      "Does someone need a hug?"

"Yes, a very warm hug, too."

"Coming right up." Parker gently put his arms around me. "You said no promises."

"Yes, yes I did." I laid there for a few hours watching Fast and Furious with Parker and then I fell asleep. I was dreaming. The same dream from the hospital. Why is this a reoccurring thing. I was on the ride. A chord whipped around and then I was staring at a young girl. Her neck was covered in blood and her head was severed on the ground. Everyone was screaming, I screamed, too.

I was woken up by Parker. He stared at me concerned. "Are you alright?"

      "Yes. Why?"

"You were screaming in your sleep again. What are you seeing that is so terrifying."

"Nothing. I'm not seeing anything scary, I'm just screaming for some odd reason."

"Well relax." He pulled me close. I nuzzled into him and looked at the clock.

      "How long was I sleeping?"

"Maybe half a day. I don't know because I went to the track to get used to driving again and I didn't know you were the one who fixed my car."

"Oh, yea. I fixed it with some new girl at the track she's 28 and knows a lot about car bodies. She said your frame is as bendy as plastic and she helped me bend it back to its normal shape."

      "Thanks."

"No problem, I couldn't drive anyway."

"We all know you were driving."

"You know me so well."I got up because I needed a shower. Parker followed me into my room and into my bathroom and sat on the floor while I took a shower. Then he took me to the track. Which was kind of perfect because it was 3:00 a.m. We sat on the bleachers and watched the clean up crew re-pave the track for the races in 2 days. Parker held me close and wrapped his leather jacket around me. I took out my phone. I put on "Zombie" by Bad Wolves. He recognized the song and sang along. I sat there listening. His australian accent fit the song perfectly. I hope this moment never ends. He got up when the clean up crew finished paving. He got his car, drove it onto the track and started the engine. He grabbed a microphone and turned it on. "This one's for my lady, I'm gonna destroy this track." I was so happy to be called his lady. He slammed his foot on the gas and speeded around the track, drifting into the turns. Each drift left a mark on the newly paved track. Badass. I loved it when drivers destroyed a perfectly paed track because that means newbies to the track are gonna be extra confused when they race it again. It's the best thing in the world for me because I'm from here, I've been here so many times it doesn't matter the texture of the track.

      2 days later...

It's the day of my first race back. Let's see what happens.
