I sat in my car in the pits waiting to hear the call for race #2. Parker sat in his car next to me waiting for the call for race #4 this time. He was moved from race #3 to race #4 because he hasn't been racing for a while and they don't want him to come back and race against all the pros so he's going to race against some newbies and some pros. Race #1 is halfway over, Lix in the lead. Lix is one of the newbies. He is an old friend from before I died. He was one of my closest friends in Elementary school. He always went by Lix but his real name is Eddie Nickelson. I can't remember why his nickname is Lix. I think it happened when he was six years old and loved lizards so they put and L in front of his age and he became Lix. That's kind of weird but this is in Ewing, New Jersey, nothing is normal. Don't judge.
30 minutes later...
The 1st race has ended. I have to get to the starting line. I carefully drove through the pits and made to the opening of the track. I brushed through the gates. I drove up to the number 8 position in the line. An outer position, this is where I had to start. I am so unlucky lately. We began our pick-up lap, that's where we drive around the track slowly in a line and try to get a feel for the track and try to pick up speed. The leading truck drove back into the middle pitt and the green light flashed. Engines roared. Accidents occurred. Somehow I managed to get in second place because all the cars that were in front of me couldn't dodge the wreckage of the accidents. This is my race. I had no one in front of me. There was 2 laps left. Just keep driving. I was shaking.
I crossed the finish line once. One more lap left. Then twice. I won. I took a victory lap around the track while the other drivers were taken to the pits. I stopped my car in center track and climbed out. Everyone was cheering and running towards the fence keeping them safe in the bleachers. I won my first race back. I was told that I needed to give a speech. I thought really hard about what they might want to hear. Here goes nothing. "This is my first race back. I had many accidents during the start of the season. But...what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I wanted to keep this short for you because you're not here to listen to me talk, you're here to watch your favorite driver compete. I'm not everyone's favorite driver most likely nobody's favorite but, that's ok. That's all I have to say. Keep dreaming y'all." I climbed back into my car and drove to the pits. I parked next to Parker. He got out of his car when I got out of mine.
"Nice job, superstar."
"I didn't expect to win so I didn't have a speech prepared."
"You kept it short. It was beautiful."
"I guess. I have to go see the boss real quick because he was waving me over during my speech."
"Good luck."
"You too. Get ready for your race, you're up in 15 minutes after all."I walked to the skydeck where the boss stayed during the races. He wants to make sure everything runs smoothly. I walked up the steps. The door was open. I walked in and went over to the boss."You were gesturing to see me, Boss?"
"Oh, Saraya, call me Kenny. And yes I wanted you to come up here."
"Why? Did I do something wrong?"
"No. I wanted to say welcome back and now congratulations."
"Oh. Thank you."
"However, I want you to do some events where you can give the fans an opportunity to meet you."
"Ok, I would love to. When?"
"Today I want you to go and get some food for me at the vending counter."
